One of the things that makes YOUR videos so engaging is that you have a very expressive face. So I have sometimes coached people to sing or jog in place for a minute before they sit down for the interview, just to get their energy up. Nobody wants to look maniacal during an interview-- but nobody wants to listen to a "Great Stone Face" either! And if you do anything awkward, don't be afraid to chuckle at yourself and give the viewers a small laugh at your expense... when I watch people be interviewed and they make a mistake I always find it very endearing if they can relax their dignity enough to be amusing.

Very good tips. Thanks. Would have needed your video last week. I just practised videoconferencing for job interviews last sunday with a friend and we applied most of the tips you mentioned on her setting. Most important were selection of the background (keep it plain and still show some personality, but not too much), lighting (getting rid of reflections on glasses as well as setting small highlight on hair), sound (we added an external microphone). We tried to raise the laptop a bit to change the camera angle, but that was counterproductive causing more reflections on glasses. Last point I had to convince her on was wearing solid colors. She wanted to wear a blouse with thin stripes which no one on TV would wear because of the flickering it causes. Will see how all this works out. Interview is on Thursday and she has promised not to move the laptop, lights and microphone from its positions.

Great tips. Having seen the way my Mother will spend more time studying the background of a program rather than listen to the program, I can see why tip number 6 is very important. Tip 7 is great, but thanks to my little dog with very healthy lungs, finding a quiet spot that would be free of background noise will definitely be a challenge.

Thank you Julie for these videos. I stumbled on to your channel via your interview with Self Publishing With Dale and I’ve loved binge watching your vids ever since. I only just now realized I wasn’t subscribed to your channel, so now I am. Question: I’m in the states and have looked at Bowker and how much ISBN’s cost. Now I see they have a barcode option but you don’t get as many of them as the ISBN’s, what is the difference between barcodes and ISBN’s? why do I need them separately ? And is it a big deal whether I get both or not? I’m confused and on a budget, I don’t want to make a costly mistake on my first book. Thanks again Julie!!💕
@BookLaunchers
3 жыл бұрын
Please don't pay Bowker for a bar code. You can get them created for free either when you upload or through your cover designer or even free websites. The ISBN is the number. The bar code is the thing that gets scanned.

If you have room - soft box lights are a great solution for that - I've seen some folks using this: lumecube.com/products/video-conference-lighting-kit-for-remote-workers?currency=USD&Google%20Shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwl9GCBhDvARIsAFunhsmaKX4GN08p1xFeSoBAQHNy1vSx1NQFXwibnlW4Zoxa2-2G20YVLPsaAunCEALw_wcB Oh that's an ugly link ... but anyway - I actually might get one like that one I'm in a proper office again.

It's not an acceptable practice on TV interviews to hold up the book. The interviewer might or they will put it on screen. You can display it in your background as well. I always send a thank you card afterwards. If you want to send a thank you mug that is fine I am sure!
