is it possible to make it
@rswcreatives
5 жыл бұрын
@@marissaramirez4471 to make the loom? yes you can but you need to add something on the sides where the steel rods are. That's what keeps your rug sides even. Without something there, you'll end up pulling the sides in and it will be shaped like an hourglass instead of the clean lines. I do believe that libby lula will sell the rods but don't carve that in stone either. I recall another person who made their loom but needed those sides and they offered them then. Do I feel the cost of the libbylula loom is worth the money? absolutely. Even if you find somewhere else that sells the loom, as long as the construction is good and the rods are on the sides, it should work fine. There are vids on KZitem that show people making these looms so that would be my suggestion. After having the libbylula loom, have no desire to make one because these are still holding firm and work perfect. Good luck with your project and please let us know how it works for you.

@@rswcreatives It seems very easy except of my pinky left hand is in splint for a mallet finger tip. You dont realize how you use each finger. Lol 12 rows so far. Using old jeans that cant be donated to GoodWill because of virus but its going to be a cool rug. Question when do you start at bottom?
@rswcreatives
4 жыл бұрын
@@user-eq9nh9sl8k My goodness! take it easy with that finger and yes you use them all with this weaving. I flip the loom when I reach a point where I have to start bending to weave. Have had a back issue for years so it's important to keep alignment straight. I have done, in the past, weaved a pattern and I flipped the loom with each change so both ends were even. For example, 6 rows of blue then I would flip the loom and put in 6 rows of blue at the other end. I find it keeps my rows consistent and I didn't have to count and log all that down. Hope that helps.

I do not tie knots to finish off my rug. I just twine my stitches past where they meet and use a toothbrush needle to pull them up into the warp channel for three inches. I usually go up with one of each pair and down with the other two . You have to pull them gently so you do not make a hole. Finishing a rug this way you have no knots and you can not see your end. I do not worry about putting the knots from changing fabric strips only on the back. I want my rug to be reversible and I do not mind the knots showing. If you are careful, you can make them so they are not very visible.

I ran into this concept by someone making them out of denim. I'm thinking the finishing steps would need to be simplified based on the bulk that denim would create?! Maybe stitching them down in the back instead of knotting.

A very helpful series of videos! I wanted to see how the knot of your initial slipknot looked, where you move from weaving weft within the slipknot to where you start treating it as a single below the slipknot, but hubby's fingers were covering it. Is there a trick to moving that bumpy knot of the slipknot to the back so it doesn't stick out the side of the rug? Thanks! :)
@rswcreatives
5 ай бұрын
You can open your slip of cloth and cover it up which is usually what I do on rugs at the corners. Its still a slight bulge but if you pull that strip rather tight it narrows that side bulge down to a more pleasing look on a finished rug. Once it's on the floor the rug will level out anyway under pressure and the slip at the corners is not so noticeable anymore. Hope that helps!!

I'm new at this but I'm loving it. My problem has been to have the pattern come out right in the middle with the same number of rows for the different colors because of switching from one end to the other. How do I know how many row to do of each color?
@rswcreatives
6 жыл бұрын
how many is up to you! row size depends on the thickness of your material that you're weaving with. bulky wide strips will be take up a bit more space then a thinner strip. What I personally do on a rug is do my start and lets say the first color i use, I put 10 rows. I flip the frame and put 10 rows on the opposite end so i have the same number.

I have not had knots come undone. Still have a rug on the back deck that the dogs use all the time and I hose it down every spring. It's been there about 4 yrs now and just starting to show wear. But the knots are holding fine. Havent weaved the ends back in cause I weave tight and there just isnt room for them but you can do that on your rug

After you make your rug and take it off the loom how much does it shrink? I need to make it a certain size and am wondering how much bigger to make it all around.
@rswcreatives
5 жыл бұрын
It really doesn't shrink. The loops will shrink into the rug itself and be more concealed rather then sticking out as a trip hazard. But as for the size of the rug, what you make is true. So if you need smaller, you will have to make it smaller. Hope that helps.

I have the LibbyLula loom (love it!!) but my question is: why not just weave from one end, all the way to the other? why meet in the middle?
@rswcreatives
6 жыл бұрын
I'm not completely positive but my thinking is it helps keep the knot secure and by putting it on the end, you'll have a big knot right there in view. by tucking it in the center, it will get stepped on more frequently then the edge and will push if flat over time making it less noticeable.

If I was going to buy material , how much does it take for a project this size?
@rswcreatives
5 жыл бұрын
if you plan on using a twine loom at full size, on average for warp and weft is between 10-13 yards to complete the rug. this is why most use second hand sheets for the warp as you can pick those up for less or use old sheets you have that are not longer viable to use as a sheet. On our rugs, I would go to Salvation Army on half off day ( wed here) and get queen and king sheets to cut for the warping strands. weft stands I have used printed sheets, clothes that were no longer good for wearing, pillow cases, curtains. Yes curtains. A kitchen valance, if the seams are all removed is a yard of material. If you're planning on selling them to the public, I would only use second hand material for the warp. The weft ( part you are going to see as a finished rug) would need to be new or clearance materials. Thanks for commenting!

what is the reason for doing half the rug then turning the loom over and completing the other half? Why cant you just start at the top and work all the way to the bottom of the loom without turning it up side down.
@rswcreatives
4 жыл бұрын
on a full size rug, finishing in the center secures the rug. If you worked your rug tight then the final knot will be centered with that tension pressure. I have several of these on my back porch and the pups use them all the time. it's been 5 years and I just now need to replace 1 of them. You can do the entire rug from one end and just keep going an tie off at the end if you wish. On the full size rug, it does make it much easier working on it when you reach center and simply flip it over. Easier on the back too. On the smaller versions, the method is the same but here again, you can tie off at a corner if you want to. it also adds a knot there and it may not receive the same foot traffic that will press it flat. I have Senior family members here so having anything on the floor that can cause them to fall has to be removed. Placing the final knot in the middle will press it flat and not cause a trip hazard.
