It looks like no part of the building overhangs the road, so why build in this shape at all?

city restrictions mean the building must be a certain distance from the bridge.

They had to make sure the adjacent park was not shaded. City required the park to have sunshine, so creativity was essential.

I’ve heard this building is a disaster. Pipes bursting, elevators not working, panels coming apart on the exterior etc

We can send a rocket to the moon and dune buggies to Mars but, we still build with materials that won't last more than a few centuries.

It’s a beautiful condo building, but architects & engineers don’t seem always talk to each other… this building had a Niagara Falls incident (water pipe burst), only a year after construction…

Mostly used for investment and hence empty. Iconic nonetheless.

I still don't understand why build it this was? It looks lithe building has enough clearance from the road. It is just architects trying to stand up themselves. Lol

I think it was a project that was fueled by the desire to show off. But a show off to inspire people, Bjarke Ingels usully does that

Lets be fair, most of those old structure require constant unrelenting maintenance, and while its true we can send stuff on the moon a d mars doing so is not something done everyday by every city in the world by everyday peoples. It both expensive and still to this day resources intensive and while it might seem easy to enforce long lasting construction its not when most city expect to demolish those building later when they have to expend or reorganize themselves.also contrary to what most believe durability in construction is about design not material armed concrete can last century. Also a more durable efficient building is a pyramid shaped one, needing lot of ground surface and space near city center are expensive. Building wide seem perfect until your take transit into account.
