Garrison, we have been listening with such pleasure to The Prairie Home Companion since the early 80s'! First in South Australia and now in my home country of NZ, and still wish there was more! Stories of the Side Track Tap, the Norwegian bachelor farmers, the trials of starting your vehicles on a winters morning, became a beloved part of our family lives. Our young son dragged out an atlas and tried to find Lake Wobegon, my husband, a guitarist, listening to Leo K and Chet. All this pleasure from your program. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 😀

After decades of hearing stories about Norwegian bachelor farmers, I finally thought of this: Who inherits their farms when they die?

Bachelors have relatives. If they don't bequeath the property to one, a relative (even one in Norway) can still receive it through probate. Otherwise, it sits empty until the state seizes it for nonpayment of taxes.

What a wonderful invention, across the stories, all consistent. Wonderful characters all memorable and if you're lucky, a musical ending. G.K. is a genius.
