Tony Hadley still sounds incredible. I saw him live a few years ago and I was amazed by his stage presence! Afterwards he signed autographs and did photos. I was the last in line but he stayed to the end and so kind to everyone.

A total of fve different films made use of the song “True” by Spandau Balllet. These include “The Wedding Singer” in 1998; “Charlie's Angels” in 2000; “Pixels” in 2015; and “Not Another Teen Movie” . The winner, however, has to be “Sixteen Candles” in 1984 where “True” was played in one scene for one full minute.

Oh, this was basically the soundtrack to EVERY awkward 1980s and 1990s young-teen school dance. Of course it took about 5 minutes for HIM to ask HER to dance, and another 5 minutes for HER to check with friends to approve, and by then the song was over. BUT this was usually followed up with Prince's "Little Red Corvette" which was enough of a mix between fast dancing and slow dancing to be acceptable by the chaperones.

This song has the unique ability to make you think that lead singer Tony Hadley is going to belt...then denies you. Until he does. And he does it like a boss. So may New Wave (or New Romance) artists' voices were overlooked because they were considered a trend and nobody took them seriously, until songs like this came out (or Bono in U2, or Alison Moyet in Yazoo, or solo). Great reaction.
