Two Lectures on Cracking History’s Code
This lecture is part of Alliance University’s Public Lecture series.
Two renowned scholars make sense of the enduring bewilderment that global history was and continues to be. Two vantage points are offered: one entrenched in its subjective position and the other that strives to be more objective in understanding the enigmatic creature that is globalisation.
In the first lecture, Dr. Ananya Kabir from King’s College, London takes us through the anti-colonialist Dutch adventurer Jacob Haafner’s sensitive accounts of life in the Coromandel, unveiling a historical narrative of multiculturalism, trade, and cultural exchange in colonial India.
The second lecture by Dr. Faisal Devji from the University of Oxford travels back to the contemporary context, exploring the dynamics of the fragmented international order following the impactful events in Ukraine and Gaza.
