Man what a wonderful video, great job and thanks for posting it. Ive tossed around the idea of a CLC pocketship, but i live above the arctic circle and just shipping the kit to me would be as much as the kit itself. I did build a Goat Island Skiff that is a lot of fun, but I like the idea of a little higher gunnel and a place to sleep. How do you like your little Honda 2.3hp? Thanks again.
@jbratt
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mitchell. If you have a local source for marine plywood you could build one using plans and save a bunch of money. The Honda was great but I got into some really rough conditions and needed it when my centerboard was acting up and could have used a long shaft model. As far as horsepower goes it was perfect and was easy to start. Centerboard is now fixed.

I butchered a Christmas lawn ornament to get a long thin rod to get up in there and got the rocks out and the board finally dropped while I got it up on a boat lift. But since I’m the boats second owner it’s the first time I’ve seen the centerboard and I have no idea if it’s supposed to wiggle a bit or not. Lol hopefully I’m good to launch again tomorrow.

The Texas 200 has a Facebook page. There is a wealth of knowledge and some really great tx200 experienced sailors that can answer questions. I really am new at this. Great video, I am just finishing my Pocket Ship, should have it in the water next month. You did a nice job on yours. I'm always comparing other Pocket Ships to see if I want to do this or that. Do you have two reefs in your main sail? What was that table thing in the companionway? What is the top speed your boat has done? Can't wait to get mine out there.
@jbratt
8 жыл бұрын
Good job on your nearly completed Pocketship! I did have the sail reefed to the second set of points. The wind was 25 knots with three foot waves on the second day. It is amazing how much air the jib will catch with the main reefed all the way. I finally rolled up the jib and was still doing over 7 to 8 knots according to the GPS. The table thing is an ice chest : ) I strapped in the ice chest on the opposite side of the outboard motor so that I would have room to sleep in the cabin without moving too much stuff.

@@jbratt Just been looking on Google Earth, looks like an epic trip. Looks pretty remote in places,-long way to go to civilization ? I'm assuming you don't go up the canal (is that man made?- pretty impressive bit of digging if it is) I'm guessing the buildings all the way up are holiday fishing shacks/batches? What made you pick Magnolia beach,? seems a bit out of the way although it does have a reasonable looking boat ramp.

JRB Aero NZ yes the canal was man made. We call it sailing the ditch. We are in it for the most part due to the very shallow water. Getting to camps and some of the bays are deep enough where we don’t have to stay between the markers. The route is decided by the Texas 200 organization and we stick to the route as best we can when conditions let us. If you watch this yeas video I made I had to deviate from the route on the first day. The newer videos are better along with my sailing skills. 👍. Thanks for watching
