OYSTER BAY, N.Y. - Wind gusts up to 68mph and rough waters in Oyster Bay Harbor led to two sailboats breaking loose from their moorings and running aground late Wednesday night.
Late Wednesday night, fierce winds and rough waters unleashed the perfect storm that led to two sailboats breaking free from their moorings in Oyster Bay Harbor. Both boats were carried by the winds and choppy water, ultimately washing up along the shoreline.
The first sailboat was found washed up along the beach at the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay shortly after 10:30PM.
A second sailboat forced the closure of West Shore Road in Mill Neck after strong winds pushed it up against the road's retaining wall. The vessel's mast extended over the roadway as waves continuously battered the stranded boat. There was no reported damage to the retaining wall.
