It would be expensive but lives are more important than the money. There’s plenty of money we all pay in taxes and it needs to be done! Engineers could figure out a way to allow emergency vehicles and CHP access to the freeways when they need it. Maybe they could install motion sensors or remote control activation for the spike strips to lower them when ems or chp need access. That would be expensive too but that money IS there it just needs to be used.

I am a freelance photographer. 5 years ago, driving on an interstate in PA, traffic stopped very suddenly. A short time later, first responders were weaving in and out of traffic to an accident scene a short distance ahead. An SUV had hit a bridge abutment and flipped. Passenger was ejected, and driver was laying on the pavement receiving CPR. Life flight helicopter landed and went to the ambulances, then left without taking a patient. The male driver died there on the pavement. The female patient had been transported but later died. What struck me then, and still to this day, was seeing the first responders kneeling in a circle behind their fire truck, some holding hands, while one of the crew faced them and prayed for the families of the victims, and then prayed for strength and peace for each other. I never showed ANY of the photos or footage I took that day. I felt a calling after some time had passed, to become a pastor. And I did. Seeing that gentleman die on the pavement, regardless of how valiantly the medics tried to save him touched my soul. May this couple rest peacefully, and may God grant their families strength, courage, and grace as they face life without their loved ones.

I took on the task of "following" them everywhere they drove. They used turn signals, proper stopping notices, legal lane changes, no speeding, just proper driving. Of course they protested... this went on several months. Finally, one day one of them was out driving. He looked in rear view mirror expecting to see my car. However it wasn't me. It was the OKHWP. They started to panic. The Officer stopped him. The boy rolled down his window with shaking hand. The Officer ask if he was C--------. He answered YES SIR! Officer asked for ID, Ins. Reg. Then asked him to step out of the vehicle and have a seat in his cruiser. (Boy about to pee pants at this point.) The Officer explained... " The Reason I stopped you was... your Mother tried to catch you going out the front door with your Football bag, you seemed to have forgotten it. @moreno valley news first I am extremely concerned about anybody dying in a collision because it is unnecessary. The way vehicles are designed and built these days is such that, if everyone drove according to the local traffic laws and wore their seat belt then road deaths would be virtually zero. The vast majority of what we see is not accidental in any way, it is the result of people deliberately doing what they know they shouldn't or deliberately not doing something that they know they should. This deliberation means that they cannot be called accidental, hence why they are termed collisions and not accidents...
@gosportjamie
3 жыл бұрын
@moreno valley news first Speed isn't necessarily the problem. Millions of miles are covered daily on high speed roads worldwide without deaths. What is a problem is lack of responsibility. There are answers to this, but with a lot of governments treating the motorist as some form of cash cow then it would take serious pressure for this to happen. My preferred answer would be that anyone who gets a second ticket for driving offences gets an immediate driving ban and has to complete an extended driving test at their own cost before having the privilege of driving again. If you get a third conviction for driving offences then it is a mandatory permanent ban and punitive fine, say starting from $10,000 but with no upper limit. If you get caught driving without a licence then it is mandatory jail time measured in years. I also think that the media should be allowed to show exactly what events like this really look like, to show what the emergency services see pretty much daily as high speed death isn't pretty, if education won't work as people don't want to be educated then scaring the shit out of them should be a viable alternative...

@moreno valley news first But if we're limiting speeds to 15mph then there is no technical advantage to having motor vehicles. We'd be as well off going back to the use of horses for transportation. The issue isn't purely speed, I've seen people die after walking pace collisions, the issue is massively excess speed and speed inappropriate for conditions. Evan if a blanket 15mph speed limit was enacted worldwide we're still going to have the problem of people who think speed limits don't apply to them or are a target to hit, not an absolute maximum in ideal conditions...

Cops have a really hard job and I can’t really visualize living in a community without them. I think they need more funding and training not less and also need the community’s support. The resisting arrest thing needs to be taught to the youth. It will never end well for anyone that puts up a fight and tries to resist. There’s no order without it except gang rule. Awful...... Reminds me of the first accident I ever saw/came upon: I was a highschool senior, a military brat in WGermany. I had just picked up my graduation present, a Minolta SLR camera, from the base exchange, headed for home via the local highway. I came across a slowdown, and a VW had hit the back of a large bus. As the second person on the scene, I was required to stop and render assistance. The woman in the VW was in bad shape; the steering wheel post had been thrust into her chest. She was alive but hysterical, blood everywhere. Blood on me. Then the polizei and ambulance came, gathered the carnage, and I sat on the curb moments later- got out my camera, took some photos and...that was my first published photojournalism/newspaper work. That led to being a PJ, commercial advertising shooter, etc. But the awfulness of that day.....the blood, the broken glass, the smells, the twisted deformed metal- stays with me still; that was 1974.

Society automatically jumps to drugs being the cause of things like this, completely forgetting medical emergencies exist too.

My heart is so heavy with pain and sadness (and anger towards the other driver, not only headed the wrong way, but having done so at nearly a hundred miles an hour). My heart goes out to the family, the Department and to the memory of these two young detectives who had their whole career and whole lives ahead of them. I didn't know this. Thanks for sharing. A couple months ago, I had this situation happen right in front of me. I was on the off ramp coming OFF the freeway, and I see headlights in front of me coming straight for me. I didn't get over right away, as I was hoping to stop these people and get them to turn around before the got on the freeway going the wrong way. I was flashing my lights and laying on my horn to do so. Nobody else did a thing. Well, the idiot driver had the audacity to wave me over out of the way. I had to move or have them hit me head on. I guess seeing 20-30 cars going one direction and they were the only car going the wrong way wasn't enough to clue them in thread they're going the WRONG WAY! I called the police, and while I was on the phone with them, the wrong way car ended up on the freeway going the WRONG WAY! Thankfully, they stopped in the section between the freeway and off ramp where the hash marks are. It was very busy this time of day, and they could have injured if not killed many people! I still can't believe it. Please don't drink and drive, watch your blood sugar(they now have a glucometer that sticks on your skin that can instantly and at any time let you know what your blood sugar is), don't drive sleepy, stay off your phone and don't drive distracted! Stay safe! Also, don't drive just by the car right in front of you. Look down the road. I did and knew something was wrong before I got to where I could fully see the car. I stayed there to try and stop them and unfortunately, I couldn't, so I moved when they waved me over. I don't think the driver would have stopped if I completely blocked their way. Very scary to face someone driving the wrong way! My prayers are with their families!

Not the slow lane, the inside lane is the normal running lane and, unless indicated by signage, the other lanes are for overtaking only... The reason the outside lane is so dangerous regarding wrong way drivers is that the outside lane gives them a wall or barrier to their right, allowing, if they're significantly confused or impaired, a feeling of security as if they are in the inside lane on the correct side of the road...

I haven't seen anyone give the full update, but as of December 30th (2021), the crash has been ruled an accident. A 58-year-old local woman named Sandra Daniels was the one who crashed into the detectives, driving the wrong way on the interstate. She was supposed to be on her way home from the Balboa Naval Hospital after picking up insulin, when she accidentally went the wrong way on the interstate, a road she'd had trouble with several times before (frequently missing exits, overshooting the hospital, etc.) The autopsy report found she had a very small amount of Valium in her system at the time of the crash, but it was unlikely to have had any role in the accident. She did not have any drugs or alcohol in her system either. Although her blood glucose levels were within normal range at the time of the crash, her husband wonders if she may have been suffering from low blood sugar and become disoriented, managed to eat/drink something to get her blood sugar levels back up, but not have fully recovered when she got on the interstate (heading in the wrong direction). Her husband also maintains that his wife absolutely would have pulled over if she had realized she was going the wrong way, and she wasn't one to speed. He also stated that, from what he could tell, she hadn't been experiencing any signs or symptoms of depression or suicidal ideation leading up to the crash. It really does seem like this was just a tragic accident. I know that a significant proportion of these types of crashes (wrong-way collisions) are caused by drunk drivers (and I hate them as much as anyone else,) but this just wasn't the case this time. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Park, Huntley, and Daniels families - may their loved ones rest in peace.

She was diabetic and they think she was confused because of a low blood sugar reaction. In all likely hood she did not realize what she was doing and was medically impaired. From what I have read she originally accidentally got the highway with traffic going towards the border then realized she was going south instead of north. When she made made a u-turn at the border she got on the wrong road that feed into the highway going the wrong way against traffic. Another person said apparently she is not the first to make this mistake and in her medically impaired state she did not notice. Her husband of 33 years said she did not drink or use drugs other than her insulin. She wore an insulin pump to supply insulin and they speculate she gave herself to much insulin by accident after realizing her blood sugar was getting low.

Dude in the silver car was doing 108 going the wrong way. Car in front of blue car swerved narrowly but the detectives in the blue car had no time to react. So sad.

@@jenkay173 It was a woman not a dude. She was 58 and a type I diabetic. She was on her way to pick up her insulin refill at the time of the crash. Her husband of 33 years thinks she may have had a diabetic low but it could have been any kind of medical emergency but a diabetic low would explain a lot.

I used to be the designated wreck extractor many times for FD. This job sucks whoever the victim may be. You spend two hours getting a person unwound from the wreckage alive and most times they die anyway. I was a big buddies with the police so this is worse.(to some extent)

Very sad, that's a horrific wreck......I've had a driver coming towards me on a 2 lane double yellow highway 55 mph speed limit. I had a few seconds to think so I went into the oncoming lane and we passed eachother in each others lane. I couldn't tell if he was asleep or what but it was scary...when I was in his lane I was just praying he didnt realise what he was doing and swerve back into his lane. Driving is very dangerous always try and be alert. Especially dont be looking at your phone or something where your not looking at the road.

Watch the video it shows them cutting the roof then the goes farther away so he doesn’t see the bodies then it cuts to a closer up shot after the roof and bodies were removed, still they had to put sheets over the seats as it was probably a mess.
