On the weekend of October 22nd and 23rd, 2022, the 100th anniversary of Stuttgart Central Station (“Hauptbahnhof”) was celebrated with various special trips, among other things. Destinations were Ludwigsburg, Esslingen, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, the Stuttgart train depot and Korntal.
In this video from October 22, two special trains departed from Stuttgart Hbf at the same time. One train with 58 311 & 211 019 of the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde (UEF) drove to Ludwigsburg. The train I was on went to Stuttgart-Vaihingen via the Panoramabahn. The leading loco was 41 018 from the Munich Steam Locomotive Company (Dampflok-Gesellschaft München - DGM) and the loco at the back E94 088 from the Württemberg Electric Train Transport (Elektrische Zugbeförderung Württemberg - EZW).
In addition, the following historical vehicles could be seen on the festival weekend: 64 419 from DBK and the “Roter Flitzer” railbus set.
On October 23, 1922, the current Stuttgart main station was put into operation. The large entrance building is popularly known as the "Bonatzbau" (after the architect Paul Bonatz). As part of the "Stuttgart 21" construction project, a new, underground train station is being built. It replaces the above-ground, 16-track terminus station and will be rotated 90 degrees compared to the previous system and converted into a through station. In this context, a new line is being built between Stuttgart and Ulm.
A big thank you to the organizers of this event.
