Whilst volunteering at Kevin Richardson's Lion Park in South Africa, Siam, and Rafiki, two of Kevin Richardson's big male white lions suddenly began roaring in unison. It was an awesome gut-wrenching sound to hear. But then, they seemed to just run out of steam. And then one fell over totally exhausted. Very funny!
FUN FACTS ABOUT WHITE LIONS
Did you know that a lion's roar can be heard up to 8 km or 4-5 miles away? Lions roar mostly at night when the air is still and silent.
This warning can be as loud as 114 decibels! A lion's roar is so loud because its vocal folds form a square shape. This shape stabilizes the vocal cords to better respond to the passing air. That way, a lion can produce a loud low-frequency roar without exerting too much pressure on it's lungs!
Both male and female lions roar to communicate their location, show their strength, and intimidate lions from other prides, especially the males.
The Kevin Richardson Foundation does not receive any government funding. They rely on donations from individuals like yourself to keep doing the great job they do. Should you like to help then make a difference and consider donating. Even just $1 can make a big difference!
