You have addressed almost all of the problems I have with the tack. The problem I think I have left is that I’m kind of short, and it seems like if you had longer arms and legs it would be easier. For example, with my back foot just behind the front foot straps and my front foot in front to the mast, y legs are kind of far apart. It feels like I have to make a big step up to get up around the mast, which throws off my balance. Also, staying away from the sail during the flip isn’t easy. It just seems to come upright rather than staying low. Anyway, I’m going to work on this now. Maybe I’ll get it

Great tip with the late sail switch! I made wrong for 20 years.

A common mistake with plenty of sailors out there. Good way to practice it is also on the beach by putting your board roughly 80 degrees into the wind & then getting to the other side while leaning on the sail and keeping your front arm straight.

THE best fast tack explanation, Dieter. Now it all makes sense, having had successes and failures out back, at sea...thanks!

I always enjoy a good tack video! It's one those moves for me that easier to do on one side than the other. Not sure why that's so, since some moves are easy in both directions, but other moves one side seems favored/more successful and the other side is harder

great to see you guys putting out some videos again! Maybe mention the brief back-winding after jumping around? I find it's the absolute key to staying dry and give a lot more stability...even if it only lasts for a second, it makes all the difference imho

Yes you are 100% correct, the reason to straighten out the tack in the middle it to allow you to get to the other side of the sail and balance on it (backwinded) to get your feet in the right place before making the final part of the turn . Especially on smaller boards this can make a really big difference.

Great video. Thanks. It looks like you are backwinding right after the transition in order to push the nose of the board through the wind.

I think the backwinding is more a balance thing. you need some resistance to pull, or in this case, push against. it also gives you a chance to catch your breath, look around, take it all in.... 😀😀😀😀

Yes I'm, the backwinding gives you some extra time & balance to get your feet in the right position. This is also when jumping to the other side you are straightening out the turn to have also more balance this way. It's very key to also practice it a bit on land before hand, this will make you success rate go up quite a bit.
