I'm a church goer and so I wear a dress shirt at least once a week. We are about the same age, and over the years I have often been annoyed at the shrinking disappearing pocket. So I'm right with you. That and the fact that the waist on dress pants has been getting lower. But that's another story. Great video!

both are great fp’s, but I would give the edge to the prera as I prefer the ease of cleaning a converter over a piston but that’s just my preference:)

I always carry mine in purses, but I just tested and the Hongdian M2 I'm carrying today fits even in the almost non-existent pockets they put in these women's jeans. (Most days I wear men's jeans just because they have real pockets.)

Who would have ever thought it? When I saw the title of your review, I thought I don't need a Twisbi mini, but, how cute it is! I may have to reconsider. I have a Prera coming to me; I hope. I haven't gotten a shipping notice yet. Thanks for the review.

Great video! Thanks for highlighting these two of my favorite pens! I have both! The TWSBI Diamond Mini is a touch more substantial. I love the quality classy feel, weight, and smooth nib, and the filling system is easy with my blunt needle syringe. And if you want to keep matching brand nibs, TWSBI offers a wide range of nib styles. You can get replacements easily, no need for another whole pen. The Prera is nice, basic, classy and easy to carry. But, if you want to stay with Pilot nibs, you can’t get replacements without buying another whole pen. And they don’t offer true stub nibs. Only the sharp unforgiving Italic nibs. Not my style at all. I use Goulet brand nibs so I get a huge variety of nibs that fit perfectly on the Prera. I modified the Con-40 converter so it’s just an open tube with a piston on the end. Took out the friction fit metal catcher’s mitt that holds the agitator balls in place. Once those were gone, the ink actually flows into the feed with ease. 🖋🙋♀️💙

On a historical note: dress shirts only had pockets since the 20th century. And I still haven't had trouble with most 5" or so pens and shirt pockets. Might be more modern pens instead of the shirts. 😉 Great comparison! Looks like it ultimately would depend on your preference for filling system.

Good review as always, my Friend! I have both. I like both. I am keeping both. Use the converter from a Majohn A1, A2, or A3 for the Prera. No more Con-40. Use a stub from a Plumix or a Metro for the Prera. Another fun option. 😊

James: As always, yet, another great pen review. My personal small pen is a Sailor Pro Gear Slim. By the way, the acronym TWSBI, what does that stand for? I tried Google'ing it, but came up short.
@JG3Reviews

That's a great option in the gold nib arena, for sure. On the name, TWSBI says, "TWSBI's name stands for the phrase "Hall of Three Cultures" or "San Wen Tong" in Chinese. The character "Wen" translates into language and culture. The phrase "San Wen Tong" also brings to mind the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the phrase "San Wen Tong" was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments". Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI."

My Ecos I've used are reliable and smooth writers, but the section is just too skinny for my preferences. So I'd expect the grip section on the Mini to be equally skinny. At a pen show I was able to purchase a store-specific LE of the Prera with a different nib engraving. They're fully colored translucent demonstrators (one in pink, one in green) that I use with a refilled empty cartridge. I have some Con-40s lying around, but prefer the other method for ink capacity and ease of cleaning. Great review, James.

I agree! I really like my Mini. If I was forced to have only 1 fountain pen, it would be the Mini, but only by a hair. This comes from a collection of Vanishing Points, an Elite, a Prera, and others. I have a 580 Iris on the way, so maybe my opinion will change.

Does the section unscrew for easy cleaning? Or is it like the Eco? Also, the section here seems more solid than on the Eco, I wonder if it's less susceptible to cracking? Also, I've noticed, TWSIBIs prices are are pretty fixed, unlike Prerea which can be had pretty cheaply at times.

Nice review. I have an Eco and love it. Now I want a Mini. I don't have a Pilot pen as yet, but the Prera has been on my radar. With regard to the Prera, could it be eyedroppered? I didn't see any internal metal parts, but maybe I just missed it. Or is there another reason not to eyedropper it?

The threaded posting on the Mini is nice. Mine has ink flow problems I need to sort out. Based on my other Twsbis, I'm sure it's an individual pen issue. It might just need a little soaking in pen flush. It certainly beats the Prera on capacity. On the other hand, the Prera has enough for a few days, probably because I like a pen in my pocket and also carry larger pens in my bag. I also like the little ball bearings in the little Prera converter. I have minor issues with surface tension in my Safari converters. Not so in the Prera, and it has the nicest stub nib I've got. Just wide enough to add character, not so wide as to preclude writing small or on less than worthy paper.

Pilot converters are an affront to the brand, and what stops them from dominating the market. Having said that, there's no way in Hades I'm getting a Twsbi, of all brands, as a shirt/EDC pen. We all know the horror stories of Tswbi pens breaking for no reason. So, that's out. It's such a shame for the Pilot pens, who have a much better QC, materials, and most importantly: a better and more consistent nib. Truly a shame.
