Get this, they could save lives by simply building pedestrian walkways and investing in public transportation, but nah we need "plastic barriers".

Hey, how about this: Provide some more crossings along the highway so a pedestrian doesn't have to walk two miles out of the way to cross the road. This goes for more than just Houston, but everywhere in the country.

Exactly what I was thinking. I just do not understand what's the need to slow down just to see what's going on. Some people come to a complete stop. Just making traffic.

Notice one thing though, what happens if you're out on the freeway due to an vehicle accident and you just want to be safe by not standing on that shoulder or lane in case some idiot that's drunk driving or not paying attention slams into the stalled or wrecked cars?
@christianpervert525

We didn't even think of that! Now we have to spend 2.3 million taking them all down!

This is not a new idea. I used to work for Txdot. Certain areas used to have them , but they were 1" grid chain link , hard to climb . They may discourage some , but in the end , You can't Fix Stupid.

Millions of dollars to put a bandage on an open, festering wound. Notice how spending an inordinate amount on auto infrastructure never illicit the same reaction that spending far smaller amounts does on bike lanes, rail, and pedestrian infrastructure. The funds exist, all the solutions are out there, let's stop being such pathetic cowards and rebuild Houston to actually serve people, not cars.

I live 50 yards from the 59 and use it often. 59 and Kirby. I have never seen anyone try to cross. I drive for a living, I am getting on and off that highway many times a day. Maybe it’s only happening in certain areas?

And no one took in consideration a multi car crash and how people will get out of the way due to those barriers. Thanks Houston, but when are you going to fix storm drains and ditches on the north side?? we flood here with every big rain.

Drains get clogged up with trash. If residents can be a bit more conscious of not littering, maybe the drains could do a better job. There's too much trash just being tossed into the streets around town.
