Good sound and a good mix are obviously subjective, but I have to agree wholeheartedly, the guys at Kexp do an incredible job every time. Imagine the bands coming in one after another with their own amps and gear that spend a big part of their lifetime at the back of an U-haul van. Shit's gonna buzz. And you propably an hour to do the sound before the taping. I'm pretty sure it's the vocal mics that are picking the buzz up. Imcredible job Kexp

Brad Field See I disagree. I think everything up to Enotional Mugger was pretty garagy. His stuff with Mikal Cronin can't be taken as anything else. Even Sleeper has some garage rock bits, and his stuff with Fuzz is a garage/metal hybrid, but this is more a journey into something new. I like it though.
@bradfield2266
7 жыл бұрын
Agree with all of that (there's partial garage on most of his albums), except Fuzz. That is definitely intended to be proto-metal with occasional flashes of punk. I don't hear any garage on any of their releases, don't think they've ever referenced any garage acts when talking about who their inspirations are for their songs. By the way, I think Fuzz is Ty's best project in the past four years! Fuzz II is a metal classic.
@bradfield2266
7 жыл бұрын
The main thing that sticks out in my mind when people label him as 'garage' is that I know for a fact he has branched way, way beyond garage rock and its reflected in each successive thing he puts out. When he talks about his favorite records, he references prog, metal, glam, more glam, psychedelic, hardcore punk. And you hear all that in his music, much moreso than old fashioned garage music. I've heard the argument that all of those sub-genres are TYPES of garage music, but I don't really agree. His first couple records with the kick drum+tambourine, reverb, surfy sound, and canine yelping, are clearly his most garage sounding stuff. That is garage. It's not accurate to call the rest of his stuff garage when stylistically it's so different from those early releases. Anyway...

I love Ty but I feel like he's a bit of a headass sometimes, I feel like he takes stuff too seriously, I liked the lofi garage pop songs like the ones on melted and the first record but now I feel like he's getting into prog rock territory which kinda sucks, I know musicians have to evolve but I don't like his new stuff as much as the old stuff, I feel like he's becoming a 70s tribute band
@MrGREENLUNGS420
7 жыл бұрын
Same here. His new album isn't doing much for me, (at least not like how the older stuff use to), but there are a few okay songs still. They seem to sound better performed live. I'll know for sure when I see him play next week.

All of Ty's stuff rules. I"m not saying I don't love his catchy 2 minute-ish songs from Melted, but you can only do that for so long, and in so many different ways. Plus, his newer music still has a lot of hooks, but the musicianship is just a lot more complex. For every Warm Hands or And Goodnight, there's an Is it Real or 5 Ft Tall. At least he's not pulling a King Tuff and using practically no guitars on his new album.
