I've never seen a video moment like the one eight minutes in where he shows the progression of a simple Moog sequence into a swirling wash of sound...and I'm like "Yep, that's exactly how Tycho sounds." A rare peak into the technique of a producer. Thank you.

Bro, let's theorize! It looks like a teensy 4 microcontroller mounted on a custom stack fab enclosure. The key layout is a satisfying ortholinear. I have no idea what kind of keycaps those are, but I imagine they are low profile switches due to how shallow the keypress depth is. I imagine it's hand soldered because of how close they keys are.
@jamesm601

@@Alkatross Thanks! Great detail here to get started. I would seriously pay money for this unit, along with the reaper actions/scripts/etc. for each function. Been looking for something like this for ages, but it seems like the Reaper market just isn't big enough for the big hardware players to make something like this.

Pleasantly surprised by how "tame" his setup is, and that he didn't at any point turn the camera to an enormous wall of modular equipment and start talking about how it's the only way for him to get his signature sound. He knows what gear he likes and prefers to have physical access to, and is happy to let everything else exist in plugin-land. Truly inspirational to someone like myself, with neither the time nor money to invest into tons of esoteric hardware chasing the sounds I want.

I truly love what Scott does, and seeing the gear in action now I know why! I'm a big fan of the matriarch+bigsky+deco, this is my goto for synths (or a prophet in the strymons, just another world, you don't know how a synth sounds until you try that), but adding the analog heat and the oto bam, now this is something else...so yeah, those two, probably next on the list... I love how pragmatic and effective Scott's layout and gear is, the right thing at the right place I guess

The Virus uses a Fatar keybed, I believe its the same one as on the Kawai K5000 which I have. Its a synth action keybed, but with a little weight and there's just something special about it. It makes my playing sound twice as good, so I think there's some magic in the weighting, feedback ect.

He probably started out with a lot less stuff. I got the exact sound of the Dictaphone's Lament sound with just an old Kawai K5000, which I doubt Tycho has ever owned or used. Love the custom keyboard, is it a kit and where can I find one? But honestly, if you perceive the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro as more honest than the Genelec 8351B (or 8341A, can't tell from the video) you must have a problem with the room acoustics.
@cumblaster420
Жыл бұрын
“Honest” probably wasn’t the best choice of wording. I think the point was that headphones were more realistic as a medium when it comes to his music. Fans can’t afford 4K studio monitors, but they do listen on headphones and ear buds in the 70-200$ range.
@Avaruuskettu
Жыл бұрын
@@cumblaster420 I see what you are going for, but as everyone is accustomed to their selected listening hardware, all the producer can do is to compare their production to other similar tracks. The Genelecs are brutally accurate and I appreciate that's not to everyone's liking.
