The King of the Waters is a very old wet fly. It is listed in Mary Orvis Marbury's book on Favorite Flies and their Histories as "coming over on the Mayflower". It's origins seem to be a mystery (at least I did not find any information on who created it and when) but it is also listed in Ray Bergman's Trout (Plate #5 with the recipe on page 435). No matter how old the fly is, it still works well today and is a fun fly to tie. You can make the wing as I did in this video or if you want it to be a little dressier, use some bronze Mallard Flank as I did in the video on The Martin ( • Tying The Dr. Burke - ... ). You can also take a look at the supplemental video I did on working with Mallard flank, lots of good information in it ( • Fly Tying Supplement -... ). Give the King of the Waters a try, I think you'll have some fun! - Enjoy
