This was the best interview of Tyler that I know of, and it's a very good sign of high-quality podcast. Keep up the good work!

Hearing Tyler talk about his passion for EV as his most cherished and important project is compelling. It’s making me seriously consider applying for dream creative projects!

My experience in BJJ was definitely in line with Tyler's views on intelligence and athletics. You have to be somewhat physically gifted to excel, but the guys who were dumb jocks peaked at blue belt. The guys who became good, competitive, high level purple -> black belt were also the smartest guys in the gym. Some of this is probably directly related to tactics and strategy during a match, but mostly the effect seemed to come from having a more intelligent approach to training and learning over time. More efficient at learning new technique, but also at figuring out how to train, what to work on, why certain things weren't working, when they'd hit a plateau and how to overcome that, etc. A good coach might be able to take on that role, so that a less intelligent athlete can rely on the advice and skills of a good coach to take on most of the highly cognitive tasks involved in training, but you need a good relationship between coach and student to make that work, and a lot of one on one time between them. Which is probably what's going on with Danaher's students.

If you end up enjoying this episode, I would be super grateful if you shared it. Post it on Twitter, send it to your friends & group-chats, and throw it up wherever people might find it. Can’t exaggerate how much it helps a small podcast like mine. 🙏

Great episode, with good questions and follow-up. I'm typically annoyed when hosts don't ask the right follow-up, don't push back in the right way, or don't clarify correctly but you did that all perfectly. But at the same time, you didn't get in the way of Tyler. I posted this on the SSC subreddit, hoping this episode spreads.

He keeps talking about traveling. I haven't learned that much by travelling, the few times that I did. I wonder what he does that makes traveling so informative to him.

Sweet! My girlfriend and I liked this a lot. She's now searching for a book by Cowen to place on her birthday list. What would be nice for non-native speakers if you would articulate slightly better. The speed is fine but I'm combination with not yet knowing enough context, like EV, etc, it makes the questions a bit hard to understand at times.

Dwarkesh you’re a great interviewer and have excellent questions, the kind to engage Tyler. I’m surprised it’s not more popular, matter of time before it blows up. A recommendation: when the camera focuses on each person, we should be able to see most of your face, so change the angle of the camera.

@@DwarkeshPatel gotcha! I have to imagine there are cheap cameras out there that are iPhone grade that you can use to show each other’s faces. Either way, you’re doing a fantastic job my guy. You don’t sound like someone who’s delusional like some Silicon Valley types, and yet are very generative, and that makes you sound real, and I like this.

About destructive war, isn't possible that defensive gets better than offence?
@schwajj

It seems possible, but on the other hand it’s never happened before. Are you talking about defense so superior that if someone attacks you, you don’t have to counter attack because you’re completely confident that they can’t hurt you?
