A very well presented video and interesting photos of the old North and South Tyneside electrics. I travelled a lot on the old North Tyneside Electrics as a child and I cannot remember one ever breaking down. Very robust and efficient stock they were. The freely sliding doors that were often left open during journeys on a hot day were a feature that would never be allowed today of course. Keep up the good work on this excellent channel.

The stephenson railway museum was the test track for the metro cabs as they came off the assembly line.

A really backward step by BR de-electrifying that network. It must have had an adverse effect on passenger numbers. So glad the same didn't happen to the Merseyrail network where I live now. Trains every 15 minutes, well used throughout the day. I should imagine if it had still existed, it would have got 507s just as Merseyrail did or 455s like the SR. The last stock on the Tyneside Electrics were the 2-car units built at Eastleigh in Hampshire. They were built alongside the production of the SR 2EPBs and were very similar. The difference being larger guards and parcels area on the Tyneside stock along with different cab front details like lights and destination blinds. When the Tyneside system closed down they were transferred to the Southern Region, the cabs being modified to the SR style. They were definitely distinctive compared to the SR EPBs. I don't doubt I got to travel on them in my young days in Surrey / SW London.

I agree the network was so ahead of its time! Need to eventually visit Merseyside and it’s rail system. But that’s some really interesting knowledge in the rolling stock, thanks!

@@JordanReeve Once all this Covid19 situation has eased off, you should make your way to the Merseyside area, likewise I've never been to Tyneside. I'd like to take the Metro before the stock changes. It's quite interesting here. The 507s & 8s have about a year or two left before the 777s take over, we should be getting the bi-mode 769s (ex 319s) on services out of Southport towards Manchester. On the Wirral Line side at Bidston (served by Merseyrail and Transport for Wales) the ex D stock class 230s are going to be introduced on the Wrexham branch. Get a Saveaway ticket for £5.55 for Merseyrail, buses, and the Mersey ferry.
