Caution, Loud-ish noises
I recently acquired the plans for the 4.724 inch guns on HMS Nelson for my project, and I realized they were good enough that I (for the most part) could figure out how all of the mechanical parts worked and animate it. That inspired me to try out a bunch of stuff with an old project, the type 96 I made 1-2 years ago based on the Pit-Road Model.
The model was created in Rhino, then imported, animated, and rendered in Blender.
This is the first time I've gotten to try procedural edge wear (Along with PBR materials,) Dynamic Parenting, Smoke simulation, compositing, Sound Design (or at least whatever I could do controlling only volume and pitch from youtube audio library SFX) and Rigid Body Simulation beyond making an object hit the floor.
It was a great learning experience and everything I've been trying to figure out in Blender seemed to click into place in my head while working on the project.
Not happy with the sounds for the assembly portion but getting that part right is probably way too much effort for what is essentially an experiment
Anyway, I think my plan is to make the 4.724in. guns at some point this summer, and do a big placeholder update for the Nelson Hybrid (getting all of the major equipment roughed out and doing a detail pass later)
