At a young age, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. And even though it hasn't been officially diagnosed, I'm pretty sure I have dyscalculia as well. What about you? Another common combination is dyslexia and dyspraxia. This combination probably should have been included in the video as well. For those of you who to want some more information on that combination, see here: iwww.routledge.com/rsc/downloads/r3_ICREDUP1710_Spotlight_on_Dyslexia_and_Dyspraxia_FB.pdf

I have some or all of all of those disorders with dyslexia. I grew up in the 1980s, and doctors weren't sure what was wrong with me. Dyslexia is in my family, but I also had a traumatic brain injury when I was two. Then add to it that I was born at 29 weeks with other disorders and defects. My doctors told my parents to put me in a home and not educate me. I went to school year round to catch up with my peers. I graduated from high school and college. I have now worked in health care for over 20 years.

Thank you for posting this video. Not only was I diagnosed with dyslexia at age 6, but I have also struggled with being hyperactive, low attention span, and a most embarrassing problem...not being able to do math. I was put in remedial classes in school. I cannot memorize the multiplication table, I can't do math in my head. I can't add, subtract, multiply or divide without using a calculator. I can't make change at the market checkout and I can't figure out a tip for a waiter. It makes me feel so stupid and it's embarrassing! People who don't have this problem don't understand and they just think I'm stupid, low I.Q., and uneducated. I had no idea that my inability to do math was somehow related to my dyslexia. I also didn't know it was called Dyscalculia. I don't have dysgraphia, thank goodness! I do have anxiety disorders, but they are different from what you described. I think I am on the autism spectrum but have never had an official diagnosis. I have terrible people skills and social skills. I am clueless about showing and expressing emotions so I have watched what other people do and have copied them. I have social phobia and panic attacks being around people, especially in large groups or where there is lots of noise. I can't stand parties, nightclubs, shopping malls or anywhere there is a lot of people and noise and lots of things going on. My heart pounds, I break out in a cold sweat, I tremble and go into a complete panic and breakdown. I am in therapy for my panic attacks and other social anxiety issues.

I was diagnosed with Primarily Inattentive ADHD (formerly known as ADD). My dad was diagnosed with ADD and Dyslexia when he was a kid. I was never tested for any of it as a kid, so I'm just discovering, at 37, that there is a reason why I am different from "normal people." I just watched your "Dyslexia Test" video, and I answered yes to 9 of the questions. There was a couple that I said no to, but use to have issues with when I was younger. My husband is diagnosed dyslexic, and I think both of my kids are, though I have no idea how to go about getting them tested (I asked the pediatrician. She said that she had no idea, and told me to ask the school. So I asked the school, and they said "I don't know, ask their doctor." Very frustrating.) Now I'm thinking that I might need to seek a diagnosis myself..... God I wish I knew about this when I was younger! I might've finished high school if I had known!

. I’m 50+ now. For me it’s been a soul crushing experience living with the ADD non hyperactive- withe the dislexia topped with this ridiculously frustrating memory problem on-top of the learning problems 💔 it hurts me to know I’m intelligent - and have such potential and no way so far to use it consistently. In rare moments of clarity and when the planet’s are in alignment - it’s great …sometimes for an hour at most everything seems clear -I feel inspired and I can actually think …… in those rare moments I think to myself this must be what it feels like to have a normal brain …..then the moment passes and I’m me again . Inconsistency is the only consistent aspect of ME . My wife once asked me …after I tied a wheelbarrow down on her UTE ……how many different knots DO YOU KNOW ? Me …. I don’t know why is that ? She said just about every time I tied her Wheelbarrow onto her Ute I used a different knot than the previous one. I have no idea why that happens . It happens with many many random things . I struggle to learn things then finally something seems to stick in my brain for a few days weeks or year’s ….then without warning it’s simply gone from my brain . I tought myself to do the rubix cube . I Did it every day for years as it calmed my mind , For some reason I stopped doing it for a few weeks . When I picked up the rubix cube weeks later ….I could not do it . It’s just gone from my brain. That was about 5 years ago. This crap drives me crazy. Please keep an eye out for childhood depression . I hope you find the answers you need . PLEASE guide me towards a suitable place to look for actual help .

Do you take adhd medication? Can be life-changing for some and might help you deal with your other problems easier 💚 Also living with untreated ADHD and no support for learning differences can have terrible effects on your mental health like depression, c-ptsd, anxiety. These comorbid conditions can add an even greater layer of impairment that might colour your perspective to how much potential you have to improve if you get everything treated. All the mental health problems I mentioned are also linked to chronic stress and problems with your general health. Your mind and body are closely linked. There is hope!

Very understandable, but medication has also ruined many people's lives and health. I'm smart as hell, but dealing with ADHD, dyslexia & dyscalculie has been devastatingly hard. Dumbing us down is a great read in understanding that we don't have a disability but rather required a different educational system. CEOs and reading spreadsheets and sitting still all day is celebrated. Whereas a person that can develop land, build something from raw materials are not, rubik's cube is fun but does nothing to sustain one, yet some are celebrated the others are labeled as mentally disordered. Which we are not.

Super interesting. I definitely have dyslexia characterised with dysgraphia. I have epilepsy and anxiety disorders as well. None of these conditions have been a major barrier for me in my life but I think I’m just lucky. I hate having to do any sort of handwriting, it’s so messy I can barely read it. I know how to spell, how to use grammar correctly and construct sentences but when writing it’s like what comes out on the page isn’t translating correctly from my brain. I spent so many hours with teachers trying to improve my handwriting but here I am, 26 years old and still can’t read my own writing. I’ve been fortunate though that when in high school especially my senior years I barely had to use handwriting anymore. In my career everything is done on a computer and handwriting is almost redundant. I get anxious though whenever I have to fill out a form and I have to handwrite. I’ll often take someone with me to appointments etc for the sole purpose of filling out my forms so they are legible.

I was diagnosed as dyslexic when I was 18 (I'm now 45) and it really explained a lot of my struggles at school. My french teacher was the one realizing that my swaps with letters were typical to dyslexia. However my dyslexia is almost entirely Dysgraphia/writing based (and I later learned Dyscalculia as well - I almost couldn't graduate because of my issues with math, but no-one thought that there was anything wrong with my learning i was just "lazy"). Unlike many dyslexics, I am very good and fast reader (around 100 pages/hour on my mother tongue Finnish) and if I hear the correct pronunciations of words I usually get them right after few tries, I am fast to learn to speak languages, but have terrible trouble writing most of them. I'm very vocal-driven and prefer speech over emails and essays. My handwriting war terribly bad as a kid, so bad that my 9th grade teacher allowed me to write essays with a typewriter and "the way I held a pen" has been commented all of my life, I have never learned to knit either. I routinely re-read, and fix everything I write like 4+rounds to make it seem decent. I managed to work in academia for 5+years but I never ended up graduating, and I got severely burned out when working and publishing in English in a very competitive environment. Later in life I have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and perfectionism has been my way to cope = didn't work out in the long run as you can guess. I learned to compensate pretty well, but I still feel I am lazy, just not meticulous enough just not precise enough and thus I have to be dumb like my teachers kept telling me when I was in school. I know it is all bull and I have done kinda well all thing considered (my original rating was 3/5, so the fact I even managed to work in academia has been pretty big achievement), but videos like this providing information and background to this would have been much needed in my youth. Thank you for making these!

I'm not dyslexic, but I am dyscalculic, dysgraphic (shout out to my homies who spent years in OT to make their handwriting legible), and I have a couple anxiety disorders. I may or may not have ADHD (I definitely have ASD, and there's a lot of overlap so I'm not sure, but it's definitely a possibility) It's really nice to hear dyscalculia and dysgraphia talked about as I had teachers who didn't believe dyscalculia was a thing, and my teachers actively hid my dysgraphia diagnosis from me, they just told me I had dexterity issues.

I'm 57 and just last night I had to tell my son while over for dinner, "my brain has been exceptionally broken since the move." because I kept going backwards on the game board playing snake and ladders with my granddaughter and was also having difficulties talking, which is one of my worst symptom. I've never been to a dr but I've known since I way so young that something has been wrong or as I say, "broken" between my brain, my body and mouth. I could never be trusted to tell anyone verbal direction from the passenger seat as it always came out backwards. Forget reading road signage.......so I always had to point...same with telling them were things were in the kitchen. The only way Mrs Bibby could teach me the 7 times tables was just memorize the 7,14,21,28 and so on. I can't take verbal directions from people which is tough when I'm lost...The more stress in my life the the worse I get. School and young adult hood was brutal, and even now it's no picnic...because sometimes I give up trying to say the damn word.... as far as reading, I can no longer read books (which I loved) and articles seem to be tougher as I've gotten older.

Have always been hyperactive but adhd and dyslexia wasnt a thing growing up so it never got dealt with. My issues were never reading normal text but computer fonts drive me crazy and actually hurt to read, writing i am useless, especially staight to type. I forced myself through a dictionary and thankfully have retentive memory so made up my own way of dealing/hiding. Straight a student apart from english language class 😂😂 at 40+ finally got diagnosis to make sense of it all, thats when i learnt about dysgraphia. Sooo now i am an ancient adhd dysgraphic but not a dyslexic apparently 😅

i was diagnosed with ADHD at a very young age and started taking medication for it at 6 years old. i've always been an avid reader, but lately i've found that i can't focus on any books i'm trying to read. i also have a crippling anxiety issue. when i read nowadays the words kind-of swim around and i can't focus on any sentences, as well as even focus on what book it is. even if i've read it a million times when i was younger. i get most of my thoughts out through creative writing, tend to speak faster, struggle to express my thinking verbally, and i interrupt people who are talking to finish their sentences. i'm also pretty sure i have dyspraxia. am i dyslexic as well?

I might possibly have dysgraphia. I cannot read my own hand writing unless I really try to write it very slowly. My writing is a mix of skipped words or letters and lots of spelling errors. I always kinda laugh it off and see it as me doing a typo in writing. The major take away though is that I do enjoy drawing and painting, which is also my side job. I’ve always had terrible attention span and my hands always needed to do something, drawing quickly became my own “fidget toy”.

I am trying to find my diagnosis but I'm having a hard time finding the exact definition. When I'm writing a word, for example "science," I may write the letter "c," forgetting the "s." Or write "si" forgetting the "c." I know how to spell the word but I'm spelling it wrong when writing. Also I will flip a letter. For example, instead of writing the word "make," I will write "wake." I can not find a diagnosis to explain this issue.

I guessed Maybe I have a dyslexia and anxiety disorder. Because when I'm excited or worried I was like a little shaking and most of the time I'm having a hard time focusing that's why some people told me I was absent minded person.

For someone with both dyslexia & ADHD, I find underlying factors cause them both. e.g. A poor working memory in relation to my processing speed being one of the factors of both my dyslexia & ADHD

I have all of them. Audiobooks are amazing, but I have to be doing something else at the same time in order to focus. Same thing when listening to people. A lot of people don't understand that when I'm doing multiple things I am able to focus better on what they're saying. If you want me to just sit there and listen, my brain is going to wonder off on a fantasy adventure with one or more of the many, many characters in my head. I was mercy passed in algebra. I had students in university for their doctorate in a math subject, watch me do the equations. But the letters and numbers would move. I could do the equation perfectly and almost never get the right answer. In the end my teacher graded my 'show your works' instead of the answers, and I got one point above passing (since the answers were almost never right, she couldn't give me an A for perfect equations.) and was not required to take another math class. When my anxiety launches like a rocket, CBD has been a life saver. I have friends who take it daily just to get out of bed. I don't want to become dependent on it like they have, and only take it when I can no longer function or my brain won't let me sleep.

Im 70yrs old. Back then we did not have this kind of help. I failed the 5th grade. Went to a different school. Did better. My family moved to another town and I was in the 6th grade failed it. This was an uppity class of people. So the next year when I wenr to same school to repeat 6th grade no one even noticed me. I had a great teacher who gave me more attention. I became popular and knew I had to apply myself better. I taught myself if you want the girls and good friends you can not ride the short buss. I worked hard and made it to junior high. From the 7th grade to 12th grade I took speach class. Applied myself and graduatend with honors. My speach teacher was a great help. I was in two honors clubs. I married the head cheerleader and campus Queen. All the time know one knew I was had Dyslexa. Worked for RailRoad and went up the ladder. Thanks to that book most 50,000nd words. Jesus was my guiding Light. Thank you for all the help you are doing!!!! Peace Out and Love! P.S. it was the Hippie years and I was the good kid! MMLZZZ

I love painting and drawing in fact it's one of multiple creatively focused activities that I am reasonably knowledgeable in, I crochet, sing, I have a strong interest in playing instruments I taught myself how to play an instrument perhaps three years ago now, I can sculpt etc I have quite a few different skills in the area of creativity, but my hand writing is tarrible partially because I have unsteady hands, I'm a physically shaky due to medical challenges which effected physical functions but yes I have learning struggles around remembering how to spell words and it took a long time to learn to read, ugh when someone said sound it out that was super annoying. I have trouble telling time on analog clock I can do it, but it takes an extra few seconds more for me to calculate vs someone else who has no struggle, in terms of math it's weird because during home school I struggled with math but while in traditional school I picked up math faster and passed most math test in fact some students would try to cheat off paper because I was getting A & B grades on the majority of my test and home work. I'm rusty now, but back in the day I was pretty good at math, but with letters I'd get confused between d & b and I still occasionally do also which way is the number two you know stuff like that, my sense of direction isn't great but that could be partly because I'm cooped up a often thus don't ask me where to turn in a Taxi or Uber without access to GPS which has been an embarrassing source of anxiety heart race level which made me nervous to go places especially before GPS. I've learned a little hack to remember my left from right now but prior I couldn't remember that either I have this colorful thing in which numbers and the days of the week have a colors each day has a different corresponding color which has remained the same color since childhood numbers have colors as well it's not as strong with letters simply days, and numbers I can see it in my minds eye. I'm energetic but I can sit through long tedious task though inside I'm anxious to finish especially if it's a task I'm not interested in, if the task is boring to me I'll do it but inside I'm doing my version of tapping my foot. I've always been someone who followed instructions and was well behaved as a kid I was often complimented on behavior around new people or extended family I always tried as hard as I could in whatever environment I was in even if I dreaded the task I'd do it even if I failed but inside I was a ball of anxiety, and sometimes burst into tears when I thought no one was looking especially during a time when folks thought you were stupid or lazy for not understanding things or struggling to complete task I'm also oddly ambidextrous ☮️ 🌈

I'm sure I've got undiagnosed dyscalcula. I'm great at maths but I can't say numbers correctly out loud I have trouble verbalising what time it is correctly and I can often work things out in my head but then haven't got a clue how to do them on paper and can't show my working out.

I haven never been tested, but always had those problems. I have some condition where my eyes would quickly go onto one side, and I don't even notice, but I notice it while reading. I could be reading and at some point loose track at where I am. Then I have to quickly look for the word again. Now I just take a ruler or something straight to underline my text , so when it happens I can easily find it. As for anxiety, it is really high. I can obviously reed, but I could just stumble on a simple word and miss pronounce it as something totally different, while using all the letters of the existing one. And that raises anxiety and leads to more mistakes.

I found this page by searching types of dyslexia. I learned that apparently people that suck at math like me can have a disorder. Then I find that you include anxiety which I take meds for. Plus I've been recently diagnosed with ADHD. So I'm watching this and thinking holy hell. Why wasn't I diagnosed as a kid? I was and still do have a harder time at school/college. I always thought I'm a bad test taker. Or a bad student. Perhaps it's not my fault I have issues? Years of my own brain bullying myself and thinking I'm stupid. I want a do-over at life with having the proper things diagnosed early. Maybe I would of ended up better at life. Damn. The thing. I actually did well in English. So maybe they didn't think I was dyslexic. But I can write pretty well. It's verbal communicating that is hard. I sometimes stutter or my words get jumbled or I see words completely wrong. Does this make sense?

I apologize if this is as difficult for you to read as it is for me, but I have quite a bit of trouble when wording things despite making it sound super fancy. I tried to shorten it, sorry Edit: I've already been diagnosed with ADD and two anxiety disorders I never realized that dyslexia has influence on a person's memory. I'm wondering if I may have dyslexia, due to the fact that I already have a difficult time understanding the words that come out of people's mouths and I constantly re-read or rewrite/type things because I can't tell what it says or I start scribbling/writing random letters. But, regarding memory, mine is horrible for being under 20, so would forgetting things such as information you learned less than an hour ago (important procedure, something from your favorite subject, etc) be a sign of dyslexia? Or would it be something else entirely that I should be concerned about?

I have undiagnosed dyslexia, i dont have health insurance but it my grandmother suffers from it, and for me its progressively getting worse. i can't talk straight i drop or knock crap over all the time, i cant speak right half the time, i forget what im doing as soon as i go to do it, and or forget what im grabbing going, etc, our favorite restaurant i couldnt remember the name to save my life, i had to google the town just to figure out the name, and we sat down to get drinks we settled on a certian kind of margarita, 3 seconds later literally after we ordered and the guy walked away i had to ask what kind we were getting because i seirously couldnt remmeber and i told my fiances family im sorry, i think its dyslexia and its seriously getting worse, they didnt care, but they just stared at me for a second like i was crazy, at work i literaly flipped an enitre pulled pork nacho over, my brain said pick it up but my hands said YEET. :( its getting harder and harder every day . but its all the key symptoms that i pick up on. and Its seriously depressing.

Idk if I was officially diagnosed but I remember a doctor talking to my parents about ADD and dyslexia. I definitely had trouble with math and number getting jumbled early on. However by the time I was in high school reading and math were my strong points. My handwriting on the other hand never improved, as a kid I had trouble getting my left and right shoes correct, I still have trouble with directions (I'll think left and turn right, it hurts to write so I avoid it, and I hold my pen and paper as if I were left handed although I am right handed. So did my dyslexia improve or was I misdiagnosed and I really just have dysgraphia?
