@heidihoney1 It is hard to recommend a pad without seeing your pony with a saddle on it. The height of the wither and the width of your pony's back will dictate which pad is best for your stated purpose: to provide comfort to your pony's back or to provide lift to the saddle. Gel pads give cushion but no lift. Risers give lift. Best to consult with your local tack store.

this might be a really stupid question but I was browsing some horsey forums a while back and there was a topic on saddle pads. I've always thought most pads provided support for the horses back of some sort however the people in this topic said things like "you shouldnt need a pad as long as your saddle fits correctly all they are for is to protect your saddle from sweat." However I watch this video and it goes more towards the support side. ????

Sooooo this comment was made the year I was born but here is an answer. You always need a saddle pad. Many reasons. To protect your saddle, and your horses back. It takes off the pressure and does help with sweat.
