Excellent overview Lou; it was very informative and corrected a few misunderstandings I had.

This is a general starting point in understanding. Brands can vary in success and failure depending upon their execution. If any of the designs are flawed, your ears zero in on the defects. An easy example of this is to turn one bookshelf speaker on its side while leaving the other in it's proper upright position. Your ears will go right to that one regardless of it being on the right or left channel because the timing between the drivers will most likely be incorrect if it is a quality design.

Yes you are! And that's perfectly fine. I built great theaters with K-horns. I just want people to understand what they need to look for before they make a mistake. If you need to tow a horse trailer, a Ford Fiesta is a terrible choice. Or if you want great fuel economy, don't buy a Dually.

Personally, I'm more of a plasma kind of guy. 🙂Thanks for the great discussion!

Well, having no experience with those, well, not much I could say. It's all an amazing world of things and I have seen some great designs fail to survive. Each has strengths and weaknesses. I thought a general discussion would help the new ones out. Of course, the quality of execution can be a big factor too.

@@audibleeleganceinc You did a great job. I didn't know the dispersion of flat panels speakers was so limited. 3° is not much. Oh, I was just kidding about the plasma tweeters... I am reasonably happy with my inverted dome Focals. Cheers!

I got a lot out of that talk.

Well, thank you Tom. I am trying talk about what few others do and passing on a great many things taught to me over 40 years by some of the greatest people in the industry, many of whom are now passed. I look upon the remnants of our industry and it's painful. I now can only talk with a few of my brethren as so much has changed and so much has already been lost. I suppose some of it has been "conveniently lost" in order to suit the profit needs of investor groups, buying groups, and the like. Small dealers, such as mine, were forgotten long ago in favor of more glamorous presentations where where you buy it from is far more important than what you buy and the results therefrom. Many manufacturers led that charge first. In the end, I am reminded of one of the final scenes from Lawrence of Arabia when King Faisal explains the difference between the roles of young men and old ones to then Colonel Lawrence: to know one's place. So, sit back and enjoy as there are many more videos to come. Who knows, you might pick up a thing or two here and there. Meanwhile, it would be deeply appreciated if you let others know that these jewels exist right along with some pretty informative blogs on my website.

This unfortunate trend has happened across many industries, but especially those that cater to leisure activities. Many great motorcycle shops closed in the late 90s early 2000s when they couldn't or wouldn't afford to build these Disneyland like stores. Then many of those fancy places could not stay afloat when the hard times came around in2008. I agree it is a bad trend.
