Looking back, Golota made the right decision considering the circumstances. He was hurt even worse than he himself even knew. He probably saved his own life that day. Boxing is a job for these guys, and it shouldn't be a death sentence just because some people want to be entertained.

I can't believe what the paparazzi said to Golota. What does he have to say to the people who PPV and his fans? He was stuttering but give the guy a break. If he kept fighting he would have died from a concussion. You have to know your limits. You don't want to end up like Apollo Creed after getting smashed by Ivan Drago.

He didn't even train for that fight and it showed. In his book he said for months prior to the fight he was partying in Jamaica, Hawaii and Cuba doing cocaine and drinking a lot. Also the boxing commission forces him to be medicated on Zoloft in the fight which hinders aggression.

Golota was big and strong guy, but it clearly shows his technique and speed were inferior. He landed some good punches, but missed a lot which took a toll on his stamina. He was more suited for fighting on village parties in rural poland than boxing matches which required more technique and mental preparation.
@peterhaye8537

Golota sustained a fractured cheekbone & a slipped disc neck injury which caused him to quit against Tyson, it had nothing to do with a supposed lack of stamina Golota won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games & had several notable victories as a pro, he twice bested former champion Riddick Bowe, knocking him down twice & clearly getting the better of the exchanges, only to be disqualified for infringements & lost a controversial decision to John Ruiz, despite dropping him twice as well, he was a good fighter.

Golota is the smartest athlete in boxing history. He made the right decision. He is smart enough not to succumb to his trainer''s ambitions, but to avoid being defeated by Mike Tyson, who will beat him slowly for 15 rounds. Mike didn't start the game fast. You can easily tell from Tyson's eyes that he had made up his mind to beat Golota slowly. Golota understood this, too, and was wiser to diagnose the brain concussion and broken jaw brought on by the first-round punch faster than the doctors and his ambitious trainer.

He had Tyson on the end of the jab & was winning the opener until getting dropped, he seemed to lose confidence in himself but he apparently suffered a fractured cheekbone & slipped-disc in his neck which is why he quit, he did look beat up pretty bad by the end of the second round but could probably have continued.

Golota could have won quite easily but he got into a slug fest up close & he didn't need to. He was taller & had a much longer reach-all he had to do is keep his distance & keep scoring with the jab while looking for the opportunity for a left/right combination. Wrong game plan, but he started out in the right direction but lost his way. Perhaps also his stamina/ preparation wasn't what it should have being as he needed a reasonable work rate of jabs to keep that distance. All he had to do was score with his jab & use his reach to effect.
@BoxingFightsByGaryWilson

Golota was a good fighter but was mentally fragile & would fold if an opponent showed any kind of resistance, much in the way he did with Lewis & Bowe, in fact he was hammering Bowe & still blew it, he did beat Ruiz for the title but didn't get the decision, which was unfortunate.
