I kinda see why it was cut though, Tywin seems a little out of character to me here, not the sort of guy to ever think his family won't stay ontop. Also a bit naive of him to assume that most of the sycophants under his employ are doing it for any other reason then the power and influence of his house. Also would be strange that he would fault him for taking Cersi's side over Tyrion as he hates Tyrion and Cersi clearly has more power and influence at this point. He was put into a position that he was going to have to betray one of them. The whole scene makes Tywin look dim
@lobsters12111

@@riftvallance2087 I disagree with you. Firstly, Tywin did know they could be vulnerable. That’s why he was how he was, brutal and tactical and controlling with fear. Perhaps he betrays anyone no matter what house they’re apart of. Remember Tywin values his house above all things so betraying Tyrion shows to him that his house is being disrespected or betrayed. One of the VERY few examples of where the screenplay was better designed than the books. I find GRRM is entrenched with ego in the view of his characters, he forgets to ground them and give them an element of relatability for viewers/readers. What they did with the screenplay to do this makes Tywin one of the best and most divisive characters of the story (exactly like Stannis) and all it took was a few small tweaks and altered POVs. You give people like the Mountain the top villain traits where he is reviled across the board - but Tywin is one of those characters you need division of appeal over to give him his level of story importance.

This scene was probably deleted because it already shows you what you already know and adds little. - While he clearly disrespects Tyrion, he does know his son can do the job if need be, he wouldn't give him important titles like Hand of the King or even Master of Coin if he thought it would lead to more incompetence on Tyrion's part. - Tywin has already shown he's no fool plenty of times in the show too, most especially the scenes with Arya, of course Tywin can't know it's Arya since she'd be dead if that were the case, but that part of the story showcases Arya's and Tywin's skill of deceptiveness. - "He isn't afraid to get his hands dirty", which is shown in I think his first appearance when he talks to Jaime in S1 while he skins a deer he hunted down while in his war tent. Even Pycelle's stuttering here felt a bit on the nose, since we saw who he actually was earlier on in the show in a more subtle way while getting ready for the morning, and I think that was with no dialogue too.

Love can make someone blind, and the same can be said about hate, maybe even more. In Tywin's eyes not only did Tyrion kill his beloved wife but also came to this world as a dwarf, which is a disgrace in Westeros' culture. Let's say Tyrion was born a normal man, he would likely be the prime successor of Tywin, since Jaime took the vow and isn't as bright and cunning. Only Cersei will still hate him because of the cxnt she is, although it wouldn't stop Tyrion from becoming the favorite child. Tyrion is the one who actually thinks of house Lannister's interest out of all siblings, Jaime only cares about his knighthood and Cersei, and Cersei is a dumb person who thinks she has the same intelligence as her father. Not to say Joffrey turned out to be a monster, and Tywin couldn't care less about his death. Tywin as a character always cares more about what you can do for the family rather than picking favorites, he doesn't care about their feelings that much. Deep down he knew Tyrion is the most capable man, just overwhelmed by the hate.

He was one of the players who played Game of Thrones, and he did it near perfectly. This scene shows that Pycelle is also a very powerful and dangerous man. In the show, yes. But in the books, things are a bit different. First of all, Varys. It’s nice to portray him as the servant of justice, and fairness. But, in the books, he is the same as Pycelle in this scene with an allegiance towards house Targaryen/Blackfyre instead of Lannister. You see, he doesn’t care about the well-being of the realm. He cares about preparing a chaotic and terrible state ideal for a new ruler to appear. In fact, he even states it when he kills Kevan Lannister in book 4 or 5. He had to be removed, because he began to bring things back to the right way. But Varys didn’t want it. He wanted injustice towards the poor and fight between the Lannisters and Tyrrels. So when Aegon returns with the golden company, he will be seen as a long needed hero. And Littlefinger. Well, here you state it personally, why he is more dangerous than Pycelle: he desires the throne. He desires to be at top of the world, and his thirst for more can’t be satisfied. He serves no one, but himself and he can betray everyone in a glimpse the moment he sees it as a chance for him to climb higher. In the books, he doesn’t have that softness towards Sansa either. Well, Petyr does, but not Littlefinger. The man built up a mask for himself, one without emotions or empathy, one focused only on one thing: to get the throne. He is the most dangerous man in Westeros, and without the magical powers of Bran, he would have destroyed house Stark from the inside as well as he did to house Lannister. Also, if I remember correctly, in the books he is the one poisoning Joffrey too

This scene does so much to develop Pycelle’s character. His motivations, his real agenda, showing through his act. The other members of the council, little finger and Varys get fleshed out, but pycelle without this scene is just there, he’s just a Lannister toadie, why he even qualifies to be on the council makes less sense without this scene. And no, I don't agree that most people in GoT deserve to die, not Ed, not Robb, not Jon, not the Tyrells, not the Martells...... @@Leo-nc3yx I read the GoT books way before the show had come out and I really liked Tywin as a character there as well. I also really was intrigued by Snape in the Harry Potter books. Great characters don't have to be good people. In fact, the best characters are usually grey or downright evil. Tywin was one of the best characters on the show, both because of Charles' acting but also because George R R Martin had written him so well. Jaime is another example. He did horrible things but he was the most interesting character so I was rooting for him the whole time lol. These are fictional stories and characters, afterall.
