On this video, we will drive from Fenner, CA through Needles and to the Colorado River at the California/Arizona state border.
I really enjoyed driving through the eastern portions of Needles where U.S. Route 66 is four lanes and empty. The look of the road indicates to me that it was once well traveled in that area. We could also see foundations of hotels and motels that must have once stood along the old route.
We then head southeast on U.S. 95 to Five Mile Road, all of which is part of the old U.S. Route 66 alignment. As we get back to I-40 further east, National Old Trails Hwy splits off to the right as a dirt incarnation of itself, staying just to the south of I-40. It then crosses back over to the north side of I-40 along a wash, re-appearing with it's asphalt there and heading east to the Colorado River. I think you'll enjoy seeing that portion of the old route since one isn't aware of the alignment when one is driving I-40 since it's too far out of sight. The last thing we'll see is the old, white, bridge spanning the Colorado River that used to take U.S. Route 66 across it and into Arizona. It's on gas company property now and carries a gas line, so we can't get too close to it. But you'll see it here on the video.
Please note that this is one of the videos on Rapid Topography that will have mid-roll ad breaks. I only add these mid-roll ads to the larger projects that I do since they take a lot of time, effort, and fuel. The majority of daily drive videos on my channel do not have mid-roll ad breaks.
