Excellent video episode, thanks Captain Andy. Make sure those Surface Navy sailors give you a VIP tour of their mighty ship of war. USS Savannah is now berthed in the home port of the most distinguished Minorcan Mullet. Render colors upon transit US Navy! Many they sail bravely against all enemies across the Seven Seas! God speed LCS-28. Hand salute…carry on!

Many of those young sailors don't fully appreciate what it means to be a "Plankowner" of a warship but in the years to come that will become a point of pride for almost all of them. Godspeed U.S.S. Savannah. The Minorcan Navy wishes you a fair wind and following seas.

Saw the Savannah at the Yorktown Virginia Navel Weapon Station on the York River. Ships docked there can be seen from the Colonial Parkway.

It is something, apparently the people who do the long range planning for America's naval forces are doing a long range reassessment of whether this class of ship really suits the US Navy and it's missions. They seem to be thinking they don't and are looking at possibly transferring all of this class of ships to the Coast Guard, but in order to do that, they would have to go to Congress to both authorize the increase in the number of personnel in the Coast Guard by the necessary amount and fund that growth of that service in order to staff this increased number of ships in the Coast Guard fleet. At some point in the future, this ship may get a coat of Coast Guard white paint with the red and blue angled stripes towards the bow. I'd hope it would then have just a slight name change to the USCGC SAVANNAH and a new number designation. A very cool looking ship. Thanks for posting this report Capt. Andy. Having lived in Savannah, it's too bad the port is so busy, the formal commissioning could not have taken place in Savannah.

That's an awesome looking ship! Kinda looks stealthy. USS Savanah. Doesn't it have a banner that says not to help thee but to help others? I was wondering what it was going to do. Fast ship!

Great story Captain ANDY. Oh did it his name is Savannah. There was another Savannah that was not quite as popular it was powered by nuclear power plant. As I understand it’s park someplace on the east coast near your location

That veseel was a private cargo vessel. It was one of the few freighters to get a nuclear power plant. That was something that didn't go over so well.

Actually, the ship isn't painted at all. Paint adds tons to the ship's weight, limiting the top end speed. The aluminum doesn't need the protection so much apparently. But it does weather. That's why the LCS-2 ships always look so run down and unkept. Lots of streaks, etc. Look at the superstructure; kind of a mess. It's a shame they can't or won't be painted.
