Hopefully. Getting first flowers to set fruit is a hit and miss for me.

@@VirginiaFruitGrower After a few more flowers opened up, I'm getting a better scent profile. Kind of sweet smelling with a little mustiness, almost a curry smell.

I have one of these trees that is 20 years old now. It produces thousands of flowers every year and no fruit -ever. I need to get it a friend. Where did you buy/get yours?

I got mine from Wanderlust Nursery about 5 years ago. I believe he sold out and am not sure if he is planning to get more. I believe the original source is Marcos in Argentina. I thought about trying to graft another variety onto this one if there's no fruit set.

I'd love to see a tour of your greenhouse, how you set it up and keep it cool in summer and warm in the winter etc

That is a kind of video that would take some time to prepare and edit. I might have to work on that in the summer when the spring time gardening work slows down.

Congrats on getting it to flower! Is this one sensitive to PH/do you use regular tap water?

I'm not sure how sensitive this plant is to pH, but I do use regular city water when I water. The city water is slightly alkaline, so I do pot all my plants in mostly peat moss and use acid-loving fertilizer to counter-balance the water. I find most plants that I keep in pots do well in slightly to fairly acidic soil.

Thanks I have a decent amount of Eugenia’s, some of them are very sensitive and pain the butt about water. But good to know this isn’t super sensitive, thanks!

In new zealand, commercial kiwifruit vines are commonly girdled to improve yield. I had the same experience as you - failed air layer on my kumquat triggered flower and fruit set. It is a pretty weird phenomenon

It makes sense, in a way. I noticed many of my plants flower profusely when stressed, and girdling is just another way to stress the plant. I have a girdling knife on order from Amazon that cuts a 3/16" strip. I'm going to try it out on some plants that like to grow and grow, but are stingy with the flowering. There's a big Jamaican cherry in a pot that will be the first victim of the knife.

@@EastsideGardeningI have heard (or read?) that girdling isolates sugar and hormones in the top of the plant, triggering the fruiting response.

@@sneakythumbs9900 I have read about it and seen some videos. The people putting out the info always seem to have a big disclaimer that it might kill your plant, which makes me think I need to study more...
