Quick question from a rookie, why do you guys not plug the cables to the switch and use patch panels?
@fishmeat69
Жыл бұрын
simple answer is just it makes maintenance a lot easier. whether it be re-provisioning devices/switch ports or replacing a faulty cable, its a lot easier to replace a 15cm patch cable than the 30 meter run in your walls and ceiling. also helps with cable management (identifying cables through labels) and looks a lot cleaner too. TBH if you are only running a few cables in your home, you could get away without one, but in a business setting, it makes a huge difference

Can you advise why you prefer the keystones over a punch-down patch panel? In the UK punch down patch panels are popular everywhere and keystones are rare unless it's being terminated in a wallplate. Is there any benefit or just personal preference?

I just find it easier to use the keystone crimper rather than a 110 punch tool. Also if you need to move a cable it’s very easy you just pop the jack out

Great Job! Other than aesthetics, can you sometime explain why you always go through a patch panel before your switch? It just seems to be an extra step and adding a connector must have some loss.
@adamsaulnier
Жыл бұрын
The patch panel is part of the structured cabling infrastructure. You can technically add an RJ-45 jack to the pulled cable and finish it without one, however in my opinion the patch panel is a cleaner look, and patch cords are cheap.
@JCW933
Жыл бұрын
The patch panel adds a layer of use. You can repatch it somewhere else later or just not use it. The loss from an additional connector is usually factored into loss equations. If the extra loss is a factor then your still way to close to the limit and there's other ways to overcome the loss. Like amplifiers and just more switch points. This is all pretty rare but I have run into both scenarios. Usually way over footage or the case with blumhouse studios, their contractor put in copper covered aluminum cable and it couldn't even do poe over 100 ft. They were stuck with it because they built all around it and didn't want to have to redo it. Luckily it was a smaller building. I do jobs with 5000 cables. I can only imagine not having patch panels.
@shawnphillips1220
Жыл бұрын
Pretty clean install. The company should have went w 48 port switch for this install. Now that entire switch will need pulled out and the system dropped after they reach max of the 24 ports. They have expansion room on the patch panel but no sufficient ports on the switch and that equals fail imo. You should always build out for expansion or your wasting money in the long run. Great install.

Why are you mounting a full rack for 20 cameras? There's literally a Kantech box next to the massive rack sticking out of the wall that's the perfect type of rack mount closets for this low amount of cameras. Thats cute. We always had stacked switches and a patch panel above with wire management. 350 ports per closet typically. You had to leave enough slack to pull boards from chassis mounted switches. Life got simpler when we could ditch the POE power supply that used to be separate from the switch itself. Move up a floor and repeat. I was glad when we could buy decent cables instead of making them all. Doing a 350 port closet made your hands really hurt crimping that many. The good old days weren’t good.
