Thanks for the mic input fix. I don't own a Framework laptop because my country is not eligible for shipping, but the mic would refuse to work with any headset i plugged on my laptop with ubuntu 20.04. Thanks to the fix it works, it even asks me what type of audio device I plugged to the audio jack.

Great video - this will help many framework owners. I. Arch, I only switched sd2idle to deep, and didn’t add the guid and resume lines… wonder if that would help under arch. Personally, I love arch - if you ever make a video on it, I suggest the archfi script as it helps newbies a LOT. :P just iwctl to get wifi, and explain archfi to your viewers. After install, arch is easy to tweak and there’s a nice arch Linux framework wiki. Cheers & thanks!

I'm currently running Fedora, and OOB it runs nicely, and a tutorial would really only cover performance optimization and hibernation. As an FYI you can turn on deep sleep by editing the boot line in your grub file, but it makes waking the laptop up a drag as it adds easily 5-10 seconds to waking up. I'm gonna give hibernation a try

Thank you for making this! I've trying to configure hibernate in Ubuntu for a while now. I didn't have a lot of luck following other tutorials, so I settled with just installing TLP, but not anymore :) By any chance, do you know if there is a way to default ubuntu on the GNU GRUB UI instead of the UI displaying every time I boot Framework? Just curious.

I'm planning to install Arch and probably KDE on my Framework when it arrives but this is still really useful. I think the kernel bugs are taken care of by now on Arch. But stuff like the power saving is definitely going to work the same. Also you've given me confidence that I can get hibernate to work. One question: is there much more work involved if the swap file is on an encrypted partition? I'm hoping it's just a matter of getting the Grub modules and hooks in order.

I would like to mention that Ubuntu is known to be an incredibly bloated Distro that many have criticized. I won't go into all of the issues but many have stated that yes, you will suffer a significant performance loss on Ubuntu which could probably affect battery life due to the constant CPU usage. Ubuntu in by no means is a good performer, this has been proven by many, which is why I'd strongly suggest slimming it down or choosing a better less bloated Distro. I don't know why people continue to use it at this point, but I sort of get it, I used Ubuntu for many years, however in more recent years the performance hits, and issues plaguing it have affected me enough to switch to Kubuntu (although after getting a Framework Laptop, I won't be repeating this mistake, yes, personally I think Kubuntu is a lot better, but I could have better).

Hi! Thanks for the video! I wondered if you would qualify as "reliable" your experience using Ubuntu on your Framework laptop. I'm currently using an HP envy, and when I use Ubuntu 20 or higher, my screen freezes if I'm running any heavy process (700 - 800% CPU). This doesn't happen when using Ubuntu 18.04. Have you experienced any issues until the moment? Thanks!!

I have been using Linux for many years. So using command line isn't a problem for me at all. However, I really have a hard time to recommend this to less advance users, like my mom. The Framework laptop has been on the market for quite sometime. There are still so many bugs is just disappointing.

Thanks for the helpful suspend-then-hibernate tutorial. Running ZORIN OS 17.1 on a Framework 13 with an AMD Ryzen 7, I needed to edit /etc/fstab to effectively change from the initial swap partition to the newly created swapfile in the root directory on the system drive. I guess this is as required. Thoroughly following the tutorial step by step, executing sudo systemctl hibernate indeed sends the system to hibernation, with the power LED turning off as described. When powering back on, though, the previous session state is no longer present: all previously opened applications - as advised in the tutorial - were terminated. According to swapon -s, the newly configured /swapfile is active, and the correct size (swap > RAM) is displayed. Also, free -h indicates swap > mem. May I kindly ask the community, what probably went wrong? What did I possibly miss? I'd be grateful for any constructive ideas and helpful advice.

Hey, so I’m about to click “flash”, but I have the 1Tb expansion card as the destination, and it’s warning me that I’m “about to erase an unusually large drive” and it’s asking me if said drive is not a storage drive. (I just got my Framework today and the 1Tb expansion card is blank as far as I know, plus the instructions on the Framework website list that card as one of the things I need, but I still wanna make sure I’m not gonna break anything) Also, I don’t plan on Double Booting (at least for now). I just want to install Ubuntu to the laptop from the expansion card, so then I can use the card as storage…is that possible?
