The freshman, if they were paying attention, got a clinic in how to PLAY basketball from Bueckers in this game. Defense. Passing. etc. Young players are often in a great rush to get things going; Bueckers has amazing internal emotional control. Bueckers also is a great demonstration of how to transfer the energy of a drive to the basket, to upward energy, then a soft touch of the glass and in; so many lay ups are missed by not understanding this transfer of energy, Paige is amazing

To quote the Beatles, it's getting better every day. Of course, this game wasn't perfect, but there were quite a few bits that showed great team chemistry, particularly on defense -- which Geno really loves. Q seems to be having some trouble coordinating with the other players, and Ashlynn did on a couple of plays. Aaliyah's freethrows are too fast. She needs to slow down a bit. K.K. got stuck in the lane a time or two. The UNC C Gottdeng is very good defending near the basket. Aaliyah's offense is suffering when she goes against a good defensive C. The 4 G offense seems to have merit. Paige really set the tempo for the team, and it was fantastic to see. Nika seems to be fitting into this weird 4G offense and is shooting well. Loved seeing that. UNC banged everybody around, and the stupid refs couldn't do their job. Maybe they'll get in gear as the season goes on. K.K. obviously needs to develop a 3. Aubrey was sort of hit & miss. She rebounded ferociously, but didn't shoot so well. I guess that's just part of this team concept. So, overall, some improvement, nobody got hurt that I know of (is Ice okay?), and the concept is gelling fairly well.

Given the mobiity and quickness, a lot of shots in the paint (short jumpers or layups) were missed. I think the speed is throwing off those shots some. I liked Nika's drive to the baseline jumper. Too bad it missed. It's a nice shot to have if you can't get past the defender.

UCONN can with with the short lineup if Nikki, Ashley, Cadence, and KK are hitting their 15-ft-jumpers. Kaitlin Chen & St. Rose lit up Rutgers with those mid-range j's. If Nikki & her pre-school crowd can hit those elbow-jumpers, then Paige & Edwards can run wild. Oh, if Nikki keeps making those free-throw range jumpers, she'll play in the NBA. Similarly, if Griffith calms down & gets her short-range Zen back, she'll play in the NBA. If she's too amped up to hit a free-throw range jumper, she'll end up cleaning motel rooms in Florida for a living. Good on Nikki for her shooting & passing & on Griffith for her steals & drives.

It's funny to hear the UNC coach, in her interviews, say, "We're pretty beat up." I wonder if anybody is calling her a whiner? UConn is missing Fudd, Ducharme, El Alfi, and Patterson; if Coach A even mentions them, he is immediately lambasted as the biggest crybaby on the planet. Funny.

UCONN women need to watch the UCONN Men constant movement offense! UCONN Women lack the height and consistent shooting outside so far makes playing a half court offense dfficult if they don't move! They need to press, run, and when in the half court move constantly thru the lane! They're best 7 players right now include 4 first year players because of injuries! If Caroline and Ayanna can return healthy, they will be strong for the March tournament!

Man oh man, can anybody tell me why people think Aliyah Edwards is any good? UNC lost because of poor offense. If Paige has a bad night, most of the time, UCONN will lose. Paige basically kept UCONN in the game. At one point, UNC was 2-9 from three point range. If these teams can improve their offense, UCONN will lose more than the 3 times they’ve lost already. Paige needs help. Point blank period. ❤
