I know why:Ukraine_Building_02_Vol.3_diffuse.1001 is ok,Ukraine_Building_02_Vol.3.1001_diffuse is bad !

What do I do wrong? I've created a model in houdini. It contains multiple groups (like top of the object, bottom etc.). In unreal this exact model has a lot of material slots, so it is impossible to use these udim textures there. But on every tutorial I see, there is always just one material slot. And It seems to me that nobody in the world knows how to fix it.

The problem here is that your model has a slot for several materials, thus several IDs. Try to export it from Houdini with a single material/ID. If you can't, just export the model to another 3D software like 3DsMax or Blender, and apply a single material to the whole model. Then import that model into unreal. This should solve the problem and your mesh will have only one material slot :)

@@3DynamicsGameArt it's me again. It all worked for me. I just deleted all the groups right before export to unreal and assigned only one material. Although now I have some problem with udim texture, but it seems to be just some UV problem. so i'll fix it myself. thanks you very much

T.T why is mine not working. I do all those things and yet, when I import the texture it does not show the VT at the bottom.

It's strange. It could be a lot of things I don't know. Did you rename your maps correctly? Are you in DirectX in your project settings? try changing it to default if so. If not, try a new project, it might be corrupted. And make sure you enable support for virtual textures. Hope you'll find a solution.

Usually its the naming in the source files of your textures that is the key component.

I don't think this is suitable for mobile games, as it's a very expensive technique, and mobile games would use more optimized techniques, but I could be wrong :)
