I love watching him fight, his sense of range and distance is like a seasoned boxer, most MMA fighters will jump back too far just to avoid a punch or kick, Conor just uses subtle head movement or a slight pivot to avoid a strike, but he remains in striking range. Plus, his strikes are so smooth and silky. I don't know if he used to box, but I wouldn't be surprised.

kyle penistone Conor McGregor was born on 14 July 1988 in Dublin, Ireland. McGregor began his professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) career in 2008. In 2009, he attended UFC 93 and was so captivated by the experience he began to pursue a professional career in the UFC.[7] McGregor trained under the tutelage of John Kavanagh, the first Irish person to achieve a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and his team at SBG Ireland.[8] McGregor was always fond of fighting and was no stranger to combat sports having already been a National Boxing Champion as an amateur. richisamindset01 Oh boy... All of you fuckin noobs who are suddenly elevating wresting in the UFC as if it's some automatic winning strategy... Such stupidity... When was the last time Demetrious Johnson could win a fight by using only pure wrestling? Are we seeing tonnes of wrestling in Bantamweight with TJ Dillashaw ,Renan Barao and Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber? Did we see much wrestling between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes? When was the last time Cub Swanson won a fight purely by wrestling? I don't remember seeing Anthony Pettis, Gilbert Melendez and Benson Henderson getting an easy win in any of their UFC fights using only wrestling... But somehow using wrestling is all that is needed to beat Conor McGregor ??? What stupidity !
@wurble
9 жыл бұрын
SLAVESweARE Excellent comment. There isn't one champion in the UFC who uses wrestling as their primary discipline anymore. Just look at the difference between Chad trying to beat Aldo with wrestling (knocked the fuck out in round 1 with a flying knee to the face) and how much better he did after working on his striking. TJ (strong wrestling background) ended one of the longest running title defences by fighting on the feet. Weidman (strong wrestling background) ended another long running title defence ... and one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, on the feet... twice. All signs point to striking being the most dominant technique in the UFC.

He smacked the #5 and #10 contenders like they were nothing. Connor is truly a world title contender, but I still think he should of fought Mendes, Edgar or Lama before a title shot. It's almost a guaranteed win for him anyways, but money talks haha.

I'm a Boxer at a USA amateur gym and as I watch UFC i don't see many good technical boxers or any fighters that really present the fundamentals of pure boxing inside the cage. All of guys throw rather wide and seem to forget their regimented game plane. Whether you like this guy or not he has a decent stand up game. On top of him overcoming a rehabilitation injury and then defeating a good opponent in that fashion is pretty remarkable to say the least. I've watched this guy's highlights for the past year. At 5'9" He has length over the normal featherweights. If he utilizes a "Proper" Jab on top of his kicks and that right hand I don't think many guys will be able to get inside on him. A man with length and "Technical" power is a very very tough man to beat. Fighting is all about control of distance. This McGregor seem to know what he's doing.
