It’s also where Tito has stole everything in his career. Tito mentioned the Lion vs Gazelle in his press conference verses Chael. He used Tanks Huntington Beach Bad Boy nickname when Tank went to WCW, He started using Tanks Circle the wagons lasso gesture, he tried to be a tough talking badass ass. Tank got him into the sport and he has tried to copy every aspect of him. Tank is the originator! Often imitated never duplicated!

He's a legend because of his personality, attitude, and charisma. He cut promos on his opponents during his interviews which had wit, humor and creativity. He didn't rely on profanity because he was capable of so much more, of a higher level of speaking. He didn't have to "talk shit" to his opponents like today's PPV headliners do, the guys who end every sentence with "fuck" or use the word "motherfucker" to start every sentence. That's uncreative, uninspired, it's "talking shit" because shit is all it is.

Tank was and is the real deal and those other fighters back then should be glad he wasn't more about training because they would probably be eating dinner through a straw and getting their dypers changed today because he would have made paraplegics out of them if he would have been more about training but that is why he is real af because that wasn't him because Tank lover to throw back some cocktails and kickass and that's why he was put on this planet and to make us all laugh at all his witty charm 😆

+Eric West People like yourself who just look at his record will never understand Tank Abbott. Only those who saw him fight in the UFC's original days will. In the original days of the UFC (from UFC 1 to about UFC 12), it was strictly a TOURNAMENT. There was no LW, WW, MW, LHW or HW champion. There was only ONE champion: The Ultimate Fighting Champion. Eight men of various weight classes and fighting backgrounds would have to fight and win three times in one night to be crowned THE Ultimate Fighting Champion. Royce Gracie accomplished this feat 3 times, Dan Severn twice, Don Frye twice, and Mark Coleman twice. And although Tank Abbott never went on to win a UFC event, he is the only fighter to have made the finals (3 fights) twice and the semi-finals (2 fights) twice! This undisciplined, beer guzzling, disrespectful bar brawler was a serious threat to all of these world-class decorated martial artists. His brash personality attracted an entire new legion of fans that couldn't relate to the Gracies, Shamrocks and Severns. He was just a regular guy you'd see on the street that you knew not to fuck with and it was entertaining as hell. Like him or not, his popularity at the time helped the UFC and MMA grow as a sport and organization and for those reasons alone is Hall of Fame worthy. But he'll likely never get inducted because the voices of those that simply look at his record are louder than those that actually remember his contributions.
@davesampson9796

+David Duarte Wow, well said!! And hey, Randy Couture's record wasn't all that great on paper and look at what he's accomplished. I myself remember sitting in my living room back in November of '93 watching UFC 1. I never stopped watching since. In my opinion, the first REAL UFC was number 6. Tank made his debute against 400lb John Matua. Tank to me was really the first guy that got adrenaline pumping! No regard for the martial arts. A true badass brawler!
@RumbleFish252

+Eric West Most of his losses did come way after his prime. His generation also had to deal with the second generation coming up out of nowhere, in a short amount of time. He fought with the best, although he always lost; which is why I consider him the first gatekeeper in MMA. He was also exciting, and was the street guy who came in and (brutally) separated the traditional MAists from the real fighters. Real fight fans look beyond the records. If only MMA fans loved the sport, and it's history as much as boxing fans love theirs.
