Soil scientist Dr Ute Wollschläger works on the sustainable use of arable soils. She coordinates BonaRes - Soil as a sustainable resource for the bioeconomy. In the BMBF-funded research initiative, researchers in 11 interdisciplinary project networks are investigating how it is possible to manage soils and achieve high yields without jeopardising other soil functions and soil fertility. She is particularly interested in the interplay of physical, chemical and biological processes in the soil that result in soil functions. Together with other colleagues at the UFZ, she is also developing a systemic soil model in which the influence of soil management measures on soil function is modelled.
