We start another 'trip without a plan' - this time it is to East Africa; and more specifically - to Uganda.
Except diving in Egypt, it's been my first time in Africa, thus I don't know, what should I expect, especially after Haiti experiences - you know, what I'm sayin if you've watched episode entitled 'Haiti has defetaed me'. This time it's going to be different - first of all, we fly to Uganda invited by Ania, who you've known from Bogota; secondly - in Uganda you can easily communicate in English, so that should make things way easier for us.
How Uganda does look like from close-up? You're about to get to know from upcoming episodes.
In a nutshell, it's a country with a population slightly bigger than the Polish one and GDP 20 times smaller than ours.
Uganda's population is one of the youngest around the world - almost half of its is 15 y.o. or below; the average living length recently exceeded 60, which is a big success, cause yet in 1998 it was 44.
Uganda is called 'the Pearl of Africa' beacuse of few reasons.
First one - it's people; several dozen of tribes speaking in same numbers of languages varing each other that much, that Ugandans oftenly use English to speak to each other.
The second reason is a nature. This country abounds in fecund grounds, savannas, mountains, lakes and rivers and has some national parks at its territory, additionally.
I've come to Uganda without any imaginations of it, and I'm aware this is the best approach when comes to exploring new countries.
In a small bit of time, we will be in the capital of Uganda - Kampala. I'm inviting you to watch, so make yourself comfortable.

8:45 - special names given to twins in Uganda (courtesy of Monica Babirye):
In Buganda, one of many Ugandan tribes, twinbirth is considered to be the special blessing, because of its family restucturizing.
Parents get new titles: 'Salongo' for father and 'Nalongo' for mother, what gives them a social credit. Then, Nalongo and Salongo weren't punished for stealth, because were considered to carry the big responsibility on their shoulders.
Twins have special names;
'Babirye' and 'Nakato' if they are girls;
' Kato' and 'Wasswa' if they are boys.
Principles of the namegiving:
- 1st girl is to be Babirye;
- 1st boy is to be Wasswa;
- 2nd girl is to be Nakato;
- 2nd boy is to be Kato.
The name comes from the order. The society of Buganda has a special initialization for twins, when adults consult the ghosts and officialy welcome twins to their family, giving the thanks to God. It is to be carried out along with all relatives singing hymns and voicing their thanks to their gods - it's called 'okwalula abalongo' and it's still practised.
Triplets and quadruplets are given with normal names.
