UGRA and Stewardship in Kerr County
A presentation by Travis Linscomb, Matthew Wilkinson and Shelby Taber
On November 28, 2022 Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter held a monthly Chapter meeting. In this Advanced Training presentation that followed, Travis Linscomb, Matthew Wilkinson and Shelby Taber of the Upper Guadalupe River Authority (UGRA) give an overview of the UGRA and it's role in Kerr County and also outlined some of the programs and strategies that are used to implement them. Some of these subjects included volunteer opportunities, aquatic life monitoring and cost share opportunities. In addition, they covered land stewardship and the actions that people can take in upland areas and down the river itself in order to protect our waterways.
The presenters:
Travis Linscomb is a Natural Resources Specialist for the Upper Guadalupe River Authority. He performs surface water quality and aquatic life monitoring, outreach and education programs, invasive plant surveys, and investigates surface water concerns. Travis received his B.S. in Wildlife Management from Tarleton State University and has been working in the field of aquatic science for over 10 years. He is also an active member in the Hill Country Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program and the wildlife manager of his family’s ranch near Medina. He has been an employee of UGRA since 2008.
Matthew Wilkinson is a Natural Resources Specialist with the Upper Guadalupe River Authority since March 2022. He graduated from UTSA with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (Specialization in Natural Resources and Wildlife Management). Matthew coordinates UGRA outreach and education programs and assists in water quality monitoring and watershed protection strategies.
Shelby Taber is the Natural Resources Manager for the Upper Guadalupe River Authority. She coordinates the outreach and monitoring activities of the Natural Resources department. Shelby received her Bachelor of Science in Geography Resource and Environmental Studies from Texas State University and her Master of Science in Resource and Environmental Science from Ohio State University. She has over 5 years of experience in the environmental sciences and has recently joined the UGRA team.
