Japanese media have reported that Japan has decided that it will develop engines for the F-X fighter with help from the UK.
IHI, a major heavy industry company, is expected to participate in Japan, and Rolls-Royce, a major aircraft engine manufacturer, is expected to participate in the UK. In addition to cost reduction, it is also considering future exports, with the aim of promoting defense cooperation.
According to several Japanese government officials, the exchange of joint engine development was carried out at a meeting between Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Johnson at the G7 summit held in Britain last June.
