Well done on having the courage to walk the path! The nerves are real but they will be replaced with confidence in time I'm sure. X

Hello from the States! Can I pick your brain just a bit? How does your son do with read/narrate, read/narrate, read/narrate? Does he get bored with the repetition of it? I'd love any ideas for how to make it a bit more hands-on and enjoyable if you've found any ways that work! I'm enjoying watching your videos of the other AO years, too!

Hi Amber - sorry for the late reply. We aim for 2 - 3 narrations per day maximum. Sometimes the narration can be acting it out - he quite likes that. I also try and split them up with something in the middle if practical. If the reading is with his younger brother they will often play off each other. Sometimes he likes to juxtapose time periods e.g. he will talk about a knight sending a text message, but he finds that funny and I'm ok with it. Thanks for your feedback and encouragement.

Have you had a look at IEW yet? I love their poems for memorization? I also like their spelling and Writing programs. Thought you might like them too.

My boy had the same issues with writing. IEW structure and style has solved all our issues in 2 months!! you can have a free premium membership for three months.I am not connected to them in any way.

hi Amanda, Thanks for your sharing. Just wondering, how was your boy's routine like when he was younger? like 5 to 6 years old?

Hi Jeanine. This boy was actually in school until he was 6 so he learned to read and write his letters there. When he started being educated at home he did a mix of things each day - copywork, reading, science experiments and lots of maths as he really loved that. His younger brother is now 6 and has always been home educated. I hope to make a video about his routine soon! He does around 2 hours a day of 'structured' learning, but with lots of lego in between if I'm honest. Then afternoons are all about activities and getting outside. I'm amazed at how much ground we can cover in 2 hours - it's so much more than at school.

Hi Rachel. Thanks for your comment. In answer, we move quickly! Also, when you split things over 4/5 days the daily work isn't that hard to get done. Lessons are quick, 10 - 20 minutes - and some days, not everything gets done and I just roll with it.
