Love it! I think sliding a fish over shallow water, slippery rocks, and snow is better than bait fisherman dragging them through the dirt 😂 but love me some Bonnies!

Another nice video, your a fishing warrior bro! I thought you was up big cottonwood but I can see that's not the case. If you get any real good pic of those cuts I'd like to see them, thanks again Payton.🎉

Ukiyo seems awesome!! Ive found an accessible small creek with small browns which has tied me over til spring! But I didnt know there a stream with bonnies accessible in February 😍 super cool! How does this compare to other small stream rods from other manufacturers?

I think the next week or two should yield some accessible streams and clear waters before the spring run off really churns them. Your question is really good but so hard to answer. I really enjoy the majority of my creek rods. The only one I really feel "eh" about is probably the WTR Middle Fork and the T-USA Hane. Otherwise the Quattro, Baby Rodzilla, Ukiyo, FoxFire, etc are all really good. Where this one is new it's a natural bias that I feel so gitty about it. However the first part of this creek was probably only fishable with the Quattro and I have done it succesfully in the summer. This creek was probably the perfect 7-8' range and the Ukiyo surpassed it thanks to some of the open spaces that allowed me to fish it. I did fish the first half of this video with a 6 foot line though and only added more line at the last pool. Sometimes a 9' rod with a shorter line is totally acceptable.

Awesome video! Super helpful information. I tend to shy away from non-zoom rods because of how versatile they are. How was this creek without being able to adjust the rod length?

I think my interest in fixed length rods has been adopted because I own so many zoom rods. I end up needing to go shorter rather than longer in most cases but as I reflect on previous journeys, I don't think I find myself in too many places where I can't use the rod. The first section of this creek is certainly Darth Quattro waters though. I think I filmed most of this video with a 7' line and only went full length at the end. Now that my collection is rounded out in practical lengths, I find myself fascinated in new things such as the unique grip styles and the fixed lengths.

Interesting creek, why the man made walls, road? The reviews I read on that rod have it at a relatively high RFI which would make it not soft. So you found it to be soft?
@skiddyfishing

The man made walls are there because a road is right above me there. Although I leave RFI and technical specs to the people with credibility such as Tom Davis, many of the first rods I fished are 6:4 Wasatch Tenkara rods which have a stiffer RFI compared to this 6:4. Soft rods to most are probably 5:5 rods like FoxFire. That’s almost too soft. This rod hit the goldilocks. I also compared it to Hane which is a broom compared. Your question is really good and a fair one at that. I just keep rod specs simple for my audience. Ukiyo is well complimented by 8-12” trout.

Thanks 4 sharing 🙏 Have you fished the DT Talon mini? In case you did it, how does it compare to this one?
@skiddyfishing

Oooooo that is a TOUGH question. I like them both just about the same. I think the general angler would appreciate the Talon simply for the cork grip which is easily the most popular style. I sort of like the shorter reach of the Ukiyo but DRAGONtail holds a special place in my heart as a company. The Talon is much cheaper but is consistently on backorder where the Ukiyo is more 💰 but readily available.

Okay, I'll admit it, but am I the only one who has been pronouncing the Hane as "HAY-N" (like as in Hanes underwear)? 😂 What's really embarrassing about that is I lived in Japan for a while, and although I can't claim fluency in Japanese, I'm definitely rather proficient. Oh, well. It has been almost 40 years, and the word is a pretty common American underwear brand, so... One of the reasons I didn't like the DragonTail Hellbender is because it didn't have a swivel lillian, and I was therefore worried when I recently received my DragonTail Ragnarok 400 and found it also didn't have a swivel lillian. My other rods (including the DragonTail ShadowFire 365) do have a swivel lillian. I did have some problems with the non-swivel lillian while fishing the Hellbender (furled line), but I did not have the same problems while fishing the Ragnarok 400 (level line). It definitely could be the line making the difference. I know Brent (DragonTail) said they were getting away from the swivel lillian (reliability issues) and I bow to his much higher level rod knowledge/engineering, but it just seems to me that rather than going backwards with a non-swivel lillian it would actually be better to design a better swivel. And you're spot on about the branding/logo on the rod! I have a couple of DragonTail rods as well as some cheaper MaxCatch and SeaQuest Tenkara rods, and the logos/branding is the opposite depending on the rod, so when I trying to quickly get a pick of my rod and fish (and then get the fish back in the water), I invariably have the rod the wrong orientation. I know, I know...not that big of a deal, but it is to me because I like having at least one pic of my rod in my group of phone photos so I can remember which one I was using. Also, I've just always thought it was weird that unless you're fishing lefthanded, DragonTail rods have the logo upside down???

I totally called it like it looked myself haha. I got corrected on my video featuring the Hane. I think it's just our English brains reading it how it is. I also thought about underwear every time I said it too LOL. I think the spec gurus of this industry have stated over and over again their displeasure from swivel tip lilians. I personally don't have a preference and can't really think of an issue I had with one with the exception of the Darth Quattro from WTR. Photography is important to me on fish. Especially if I am going to limit holding them and get them free as soon as possible, I can enjoy the moment in clarity later with photos. Therefore the logo orientation is important to us even though it's a minor design thing. The little things add up! :)

I will PM you some pics! Big Cottonwood is on my early spring list. I just need to make sure it’s not blown out or high flow.
