Hremiach is a village in the north Chernihiv region located on the very border with Russia. From the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it came under occupation. At the end of March, the Russian military accused the village chief, Hanna Havrylina, of being a spotter of the Ukrainian army and kidnapped her. At first, she was held in a field camp and then transferred to the Kursk prison in Russia. On April 12, due to the prisoner exchange, Havrylina returned to Ukraine.
We came to Hremiach to meet the village chief and wrote down her story. Still, after the captivity, she was taken to the hospital. We talked to her fellow villagers about life under occupation.
