Put a cast iron pot on top, then a wood stove fan' (heat powered only) and it's very comfortable.

I was wondering if you can use a blend of this and regular kerosene. Perhaps a half and half blend. Maybe you can make a video to see if that would work :o) I know back when I was a kid, my Dad would sometimes put diesel in the kero heater..stunk like hell but we stayed warm..lol Of course we cracked a window...even back then we knew.

Maybe instead of diesel fuel you might consider heating fuel.A little more refined and a lighter fuel.

Right now in my area k1 is going at 2.99 a gallon..of course that will change soon..lol Hane you tried testing it with a regular wick.. and yeah cotton ones are getting hard to find and a bit pricey. After all the "extras" you are getting close to k1 price and not really saving much..of course dead of inter may be different Another perhaps off topic question..I heard you can add vanilla extract to make them smell a bit more pleasant//is this true?

Cotton wicks are hard to find..so assuming the cotton and the fibreglass both will absorb the deisel, why can't the wick be inverted? Clip the fibreglass top to create the "flaps" that go into the tank. Do a simple hand stitch to join the cotton flaps to fit the heat chamber and put the fibreglass top in the deisel, and burn the cotton bottom. You have to have a solid cotton bottom, not the type that is stringy.. I paid $20 for a handmade wick that the guy just sewed 3" pieces of candle wicking together. MFG wicks have very thick cotton at the bottom. I also experimented 5 times with 91% alcohol and I'm up to 4oz PER 1/2 GALLON!! (8 oz per gallon). Burns for a week but the wick is now shot. Trimming the wick has caused it to come apart and I just keep sewing it together. Do you think the fibreglass would absorb as well as the cotton?

Just started a test with ULSD Diesel in a HeatMate 110. It's a fiberglass wick, so I added the conditioner & alcohol to the diesel and I've been allowing it to burn dry every time I use it. I found that Diesel conditioner at AutoZone & 91% Isopropyl Alcohol at the drug store. The diesel conditioner said 16 Oz for 50 gal, so I figure 1.6 Oz does 5 gallons. Instead of trying to guesstimate 1.6 Oz, I just used 2 Oz and added the same amount of 91% alcohol. Only a tiny bit of smoke when I lit it. Looks like it's not burning quite as hot as the pink kerosene. With the dyed kerosene I have to turn it down just a bit to keep the blue flame from wrapping around the top of the glass chimney. With the diesel, it's not quite cherry red all the way to the top of the metal mesh inside the glass chimney. Has anyone tried a mix of ULSD Diesel & dyed Kerosene? Dyed kerosene is $4.30/gallon around here, while Diesel was $2.08/gallon today. I've read the suggestions to try JetA, but the nearest airport I can get onto the flight line is a 30 mile round trip and they currently have JetA at $7.50/gallon. A 50/50 mix of ULSD Diesel & dyed Kerosene would average $3.19/gallon. Still high, but cheaper than dyed Kerosene alone.

+John Sessoms **UPDATE** If anyone is interested, the HeatMate 110 just will not burn diesel with the original wick, nor 50/50, even when I got up to testing it with 2 Oz/gallon of the conditioner. I haven't yet been able to find an all cotton replacement wick. Can't get it to burn kerosene worth a s*** now either. I've done the clean out & burn off the fiberglass wick three times & it still won't give a flame higher than about 1/4 on the catalyst chimney/glass thingy. Next step is a standard replacement wick to see if I can at least get it back to burning kerosene properly. And then it's off to eBay to see if I can find a good Perfection heater.

@@Pudentame Thanks. I just bought the same model under a different label and was researching using #1 ULS diesel. Im told its the same as 1k but havent found confirmation of that. Im glad I ran across your post and appreciate that you shared your experience. Maybe a cotton wick is the only way to burn diesel.

Stop adding anything to it and just burn straight diesel. 91% alcohol is alcohol and other 9% is water. Water is what clogs wicks. This guys bad advice has ruined people's perceptions of these diesel heaters

i running a FANCO SERIES 22 along with my 5 perfections i have, and it has a fiberglass type wick, i just dry burn it every 2nd tank fil up, and its been doing very well with the RED DYE DIESEL. had a sears kerosene h eater, it did not like diesel no matter what i did to it. Must be the FANCO must be more of a flame spredder type heater then those heaters with the glass bulb in them. MORE RED DYE DIESEL, MAY THE WORTHLESS SHIT KEROSENE REST IN PIECE, EVEN the pumps at the gas station looks pretty, i don't even go near them. worhtless crap $4.00 bunch of garbage

Have a dyna glo with original wick... Can i run diesel with alcohol or power service diesel additive? Will be testing in the garage before bringing in the house... Anyone know of a 100% cotton wick for newer dyna glo? Thanks I believe these come with fiberglass/ cotton blend?

Devil Dog Trucker I have not been able to source a 100% cotton wick for my brand new Dyna-glo heater, but adding denatured alcohol to my diesel seems to work okay. Have also been trying to look into mixing acetone with the diesel vs alcohol to see which works better. No smoke, no smell except right at the beginning. Interested to see how it lasts long-term.

Also, yes, I am pretty sure the OEM wick for these Dyna-glo heaters are a cotton/fiberglass blend wick.
