Very informative! I have plenty of DB's but no machines at home. Any suggestions on alternate exercises for those you listed on machines? Thanks for all you do!

Love it. Would it be okay to do 60 seconds between sets?
@SamuelJordanFitness
6 ай бұрын
Thanks! 60sec rest might be okay for the smaller muscle groups e.g bicep curls, lateral raises etc. However you might find that with the bigger compound exercises like squats and bench press that you might need a little longer to recover between sets (if you’re training at least close to failure). To build muscle we need to make sure we get some recovery between sets for our creatine stores and ATP to replenish so that we can hit the next set and maintain good form whilst training to failure. Minimal rest might mean that your fatigue increases the likelihood of injury and also with your heart rate high you might enter more of a cardio zone and your lifts may suffer. Everyone is different though and 60sec rests might work for you. Play around with different rest times and see what works for you 👊

Why do I need a warm up?
@SamuelJordanFitness
3 ай бұрын
Good question! Not only does a warm up prepare your mind and body for exercise, but it reduces the likelihood of injury. If you go straight into a workout without warming up your muscles then you increase the risk of pulling a muscle. 🙆♂️

Hello, Sam! Could you please tell me, how do i figure out which weight is ok for me (both kettlеbell and dumbbells)?
@SamuelJordanFitness
6 ай бұрын
First you take a weight light enough that you know you will be comfortable with it. Practice the movement and the form with strong intention (as if it was a heavy weight). When you feel comfortable add some weight and count the reps. The aim is to find the weight that when counting your reps you really start to really struggle close to 15 reps. If at 15 reps you think to yourself “wow, that was really tough. I honestly could only achieve 1 or 2 more reps with good form”- that’s your perfect weight for the specific exercise! You’ll then likely find that with the next 3 sets with that weight you won’t be able to achieve the same amount of reps (if you can easily then you need more weight). So your reps and sets might look something like this: SET 1: 15 reps SET 2: 13 reps SET 3: 11 reps SET 4 9 reps Hope that helps! 👊🙏

Seems a bit excessive to me.. you stimulate muscle growth by taking the muscle to failure. The ideal range can really be anywhere between 8-30 reps. If you’re getting to 100 reps then the likelihood is that the first 80 are just going to be unnecessarily easy and a bit of a waste of time.. better to use a heavier weight and get to failure in the 8-30 range with good form. HOWEVER, if you only have access to light dumbbells then if it takes 100 reps to get to failure then it will still stimulate growth (it’s just not as optimal and it will be more time consuming than regular sets of 8-30 reps). This is because it’s taking 5mins to take your biceps to failure once. If you used heavier weights and did 4 sets of 8-30 reps with rest in between then in that same 5mins you could take your biceps to failure 4 times which will stimulate much more growth
