This looks like the best possible result. - I can see how pushing forward against this enemy in the open would be very costly. Your strategy looks like a much better plan: Set up a kill-zone and let the AI charge across open ground into canister. With green units the CSA would probably be getting about 1:1 in a slug-fest the open. - Cav is too powerful in this mod. I have always thought that massed short-range infantry fire should do significantly more damage against mounted cav. Ideally, there should be a huge incentive to fight with cav dismounted, but currently the best way to use cav is mounted.

Dismounted CAV get significant bonuses to both cover and accuracy. If you can get one to 3 stars and take the cover/range perk they are better than comparable infantry units but it is hard to maintain anything at 3-stars other than artillery in the mod. I mainly use them for counter-charge support so I don't want to give up the mobility. May look into that more later though.

Something that can help in the current version, reduce the max size for ai and player cav units. 2k infantry units are in theory not supposed to be dealing with cav units much larger than 400-500, but with the way scaling and difficulties work it's very easy to face higher sizes. - In the future, it will be much easier for anyone to modify perks so you would be able to do something like give negative cover bonuses to all of the t1 cav perks. - We intentionally have cav stronger than they were historically so that they have a place in the deathmatch battlefields which is all the game allows for.
