I have the Sony 200-600mm and the 70-200mm 2.8 ii and the 1.4 and the 2x converters and use the 2x on the 70-200mm lens a lot and find I use this lens the most here in Alaska over my 200-600mm lens for the wildlife but sometimes will run the 1.4 on the 200-600mm

Great video and presentation of the sony wildlife lenses. One lens I thought worth mentioning is the Sony 70-350 mm G lens, while I know your video covered FF lenses and the 70-350 is an apsc lens, my experience has been that that lens is very sharp, almost on par as a GM lens. I used it for a few years as my wildlife lens on my Sony FF bodies and got really great results with it, until I finally broke down and bought the 100-400 GM lens last month. Thank you again for your video!

That is a great lens and we wish we could feature every Sony Lens..."Maybe a future video"??? The Sony E PZ 18-105mm F4 G OSS is another one of those lenses I would recommend to APSC shooters!

Yes the 70-350 G is a great lens with excellent resolution. I originally bought to go with my Sony APSC camera, but have kept on even after going fully into full frame, as with large resolution bodies such as the A1, A7Rv or A7CR it is ideal to take as an ultra lightweight wildlife lens. I take with me on family holidays and business trips to photograph wildlife I might see without having to carry around a relatively big and heavy full frame tele-focal lens on the off chance. With high resolution full frame bodies, you still get good size image with the APSC crop. So this is lens always with me. As a lightweight setup carried with the 20-70 G you have a huge range from 20 to 525mm to cover any situation.

Agree with you completely! The 70-350 is really sharp, I use it on my A7R5, and still get a decent sized pic because of the 60 megapixel sensor. And your right, it's a great lens for hiking when you don't want ro carry the larger FF zooms.

I have no idea WHY no one says anything about the FE 24-240mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Full-frame Telephoto Zoom Lens with Optical SteadyShot and in APS-C you get 36-360 like having a 1.4X teleconverter but better a 1.5x and yes center of sensor with faster AF. On either the S7RM2 or the A7RM5 everything is super sharp!!!!!

Came from minolta and have a mount sony currently. I'm planning to switch everthing over to mirrorles over the next couple year's. Ive had a 3002.8 for over 25 years plus currently 70-400 for my long lenses for wildlife. If you could get the 600 4.0 and 300 2.8 would you still choose the 400 2.8 over the pair for your main long lens.

Hi Ken, that's a really interesting question and I know folks who have gone from carrying a 600/4 and the 200-600, and have replaced the zoom with the 300/2.8. That definitely takes some weight and bulk out of the bag and for many folks would be a stellar combo. For ME personally, the combination of the 400/2.8, the 70-200/2.8, and both teleconverters is still the best solution available. That's because I often find myself working in low light environments: rainforest, deep woods, and first light/last light scenarios. There I absolutely need the f2.8 maximum aperture and the 400 is the longest focal length available with it. It's all about putting together the lens kit that works best for your style of shooting, the types of subjects you're after, and the environments you typically shoot in. I hope that's helpful!

Hi Moses, interesting video. I am currently a Canon shooter (R5 600 F4 Mk II) but am renting the new 300mm with the R V body + 2x (bird eye AF is a must after using the R5). I agree with you that teleconverters work best on big primes, so am hoping the Sony setup will get close to the detail resolution of my Canon equipment - but be at least half the weight and less volume. These are the main reasons for considering a change. My other possible option is the Nikon Z8 + 600 6.3 or 800 6.3 - it is great that there are now good options from all the big players. Have you tried the new 300 with a 2x yet?

I haven't had a chance to try the new Sony 300/2.8 and at the time of this video it simply wasn't available. But I have friends who now own it and they say the image quality with the 2X TC is quite close to the 600/4. A bare lens is always going to be sharper than one with a teleconverter of course, but the option of having a featherweight 300 that is still optically excellent with both Sony teleconverters is really compelling!

Hi Moses, can you please tell me what lens cap you have on the 400 GM. Thanks

That cap is made by Karl Zemlin, he has an E-Bay store and makes great stuff.

White colored lenses are about the worst for camouflage.

Hello, white lenses are able to handle heat better for extened use in harsh elements.

White lenses are certainly more conspicuous than black ones, but the truth is that camouflage of any type only works if you are motionless, such as shooting from a hide. There are no birds or animals I know of that you can really approach without them being aware of your presence. The shape and scent of a human gives us away long before we are in range, which means the white color of a lens is not much of a factor. You can of course put a camo cover on them.
