Penang is my favorite place for Asian food. My hotel had the best fruit breakfast that got me going until lunch, then I just had to EAT SOLID FOOD! Seafood for both lunch and dinner... and for my late snack, was my preference. There is a food court that I ate at, on my first day that I could not find again. It was pure white, and huge. White tent roof, white tables, white chairs, white restaurants. Very clean, too. There were about 30 different food vendors. I'm going to add that everyone eating there was dressed to the 9's, NOT POOR. It was the best food I'd had in Malaysia ANYWHERE. I got to eat at the 8 story mall on the beach on Penang Island, and it was good, but not anywhere near the same as the street food at the big white outdoor food court food. I need to go visit again, just for the food.
@shakhan5589

The pure white everything foodcourt that you couldn't find again sounds like from another realm, known as "alam bunian" here. If this is the case, you're lucky to have been "invited" to experience it
@MexicoAdventurer

@shakhan5589 Elves or whistling people... no. Dressed in ancient attire... no. Just normal people with fantastic cuisine. My friend, who I played a duet guitar concert with, took me there after I flew in from playing concerts in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Members of his group were there with us. It was absolutely AMAZING. I loved the little sauce covered fish kebabs more than anything. I guess that's the reason I could never find it again. After I left, he started the Penang Guitar Festival. I don't know if he's still involved. But... WOW. I loved Penang. I'd love to revisit the island while I still have breath. I'm getting old...

The laksa you had is Laksa Kedah or northern Malaysia Malay laksa (which I love too)! Penang Assam laksa is usually made by Chinese vendors and is non-halal, it has very dark broth, more sweet and with a much stronger fishy smell. Roti Jala is a crepe and a very northern Malaysian food from the Jawi people!
