If you're annoyed by the plugs for Pat's book, I just have to say, the book is the most comprehensive and enjoyable catalog of video games I've seen. He put a lot (a lot) of effort into the guide, and it really shows. So let him shill his years' work for a few minutes, it'll be okay, I promise.

It seems like every review online is from the point of view of somebody who is already involved in retro-gaming. And yeah, you acknowledge this, Pat. Thank you. But I have friends who think the system is dumb. I want to point out why I want an NES classic, as somebody who hasn't touched these games since childhood: 1. It's the easiest way to play the games legally. It has an HDMI connection and is literally plug and play, so it works on a modern TV without any hassle, at all. No downloading, no programming, no collecting, no old TV's or old cable setups, no researching online, no old worn out controllers, none of that. Just the old games. 2. It is 2 player and plays on a public TV, so multiplayer games work. Thus, it is a social system, like the original and unlike most emulators or the virtual console. 3. It's 30 great games for a good price. 4. It's small compared to an original NES and 30 cartridges, so takes very little storage. 5. It's more reliable than cartridges. 6. It visually looks like an old NES, so your other friends who haven't played video games since the early 90's will recognize it and want to play. It's not for the retro gamer, it's for the retro person.

Adam Keifenheim. Your friends sound like they are into the same old boring games like Call Of Duty 100 or Halo 17. I have lost interest with modern gaming because they are just boring to me nowadays. I have a much more fun time playing the Indie game Pong clone called Ping on my 360. I use my imagination on the game's story and characters. Nowadays game designers give you little room to use your imagination outside of Minecraft. If your friends aren't into the NES then it's their loss. You can't force someone to like anything.

It's July 14, 2018, and I just bought a re-released NES Classic. :) When this first came out I was so sure that I would never get to see or touch one because I was broke and it was so limited, but after a year, Nintendo announced a second run, and I went into Gamestop where they hooked me up. I am sooooo grateful to have this in my collection! I had an NES when I was a toodler, and the only game I ever had was the Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt cartridge, and then it was lost. Later, I would find it again, and get to play some of the best games on the system and learn its impact on the gaming scene in the States. The first thing I did after I bought the Classic Edition before I got to play it was find and watch this video. Thank you Pat for making this video and doing what you do. Cheers!

I *loved* all of the callbacks to classic Punk episodes. (Hey. I saw that Caltron vid!) I also really enjoyed a lot of the IDGAF humor. I know the Punk is just a character, but I think he really lets Pat break loose and have a bit of fun. The self-promotion, while it bothers some, is a bit of a schtick-- but with the dual purpose of amping the signal on what is a fantastic book and a really useful companion app. Pat's often referred to the "certain NES guidebook" on the podcast, so it doesn't surprise me to see it used here. It's also a good reference for the quick rundown of the games included on the Classic NES Mini. Always glad to see the Punk make a reappearance. I had a blast watching this episode.

It doesn't suck at all. I don't possess an original NES myself and this is the best way for me to enjoy this classic game system. I hacked it so i can pretty much play whatever i want on it, it has a great selection of games right out of the box, it's an awesome collectable, the controllers feel precisely like the old NES controllers and it's very uncomplicated, i even took it to a friend sometimes. It fits in to my backpack (of course i secured it so it wont break in any way) and when i arrived all i needed to do was to plug in the power chord and the HDMI cable. It's awesome!

NES and SNES Classic Edition 2. Nintendo should only offer a memory card that contains the new games, and then installs them in your existing physical, 2017 console. For NES. 1. Silver Surfer 2. Battletoads For SNES. 1. Turtles in Time 2. Zombies Ate My Neighbours 3. Power Rangers 4. Super Double Dragon Those are the essentials for me. Considering licensing costs and stuff, I'd be willing to pay between $30 and $70 for each second version.

I gotta admit, I've never been into these clone consoles, but Nintendo did such an amazing job with these that I couldn't help but like them. The build and emulation quality are both excellent. They really showed how it's done with both this one and the SNES version. And the icing on the cake is just how easy and capable they are once hacked. You can turn this inexpensive little machine into an all-in-one gaming center for literally all of your 8 and 16 Bit games, including CD based games like the Sega CD and PC Engine CD. It really is an amazing little clone system.
