Thanks for this! I had watched a different video and they didn't explain how to get the video from the source monitor to the timeline, so the in/out insert wasn't working. You saved me. I'm using pancake editing to cut down a video that's too long into some shorter videos. Great work!

Hey! "Open sequence in Timeline" just saved my life. I would say that this little detail makes pancake editing into THE way to edit!! Well, for my kind of work at least - sequences with hours of documentary footage with synced external sound, hundreds of markers and no smart way of using these sequences! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you Piotr!!!!

It will include some examples in Premiere Pro but generally I want it to be NLE-agnostic. I'll be preselling the course in a few weeks so if you're interested make sure to sign up on my mailing list. I have a feeling like this pancake could be used a lot since you can literally import entire sequences from different projects, but I still had to put it on pause a lot to make sure I understand right. I would appreciate if you can create one more extended tutorial about this pancake with a full example from the start to the end. I noticed that you try to make the clips as short as possible to be more concise since this is a new trend, but for this pancake, I have a feeling we (most of beginners into video editing) would need more time to see this pancake in action. Anyway, thank you for this awesome videos.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing!! Question: when you drag a clip from the sequence in the source panel, into the 'normal' sequence, the clip gets duplicated. So after dragging it, the clip is still in the source panel sequence (and now also in the normal sequence). This way it is hard to get an overview which clips you've already used and which not. Any idea if this "duplicate' function can be turned off?
@cttp

This works good for single camera sequences, but I haven't figured out how to load a sequence with multi-cam clips in it and display all the angles with this method. Only the active angle is displayed and the multi-cam button has no effect. If you know a way - please advise!
@cttp

Hey Justin. Pancake timelines is not about displaying views from multiple cameras so I'm not sure what you mean. Do you have a multicam sequence you created? I'd need more details to be able to help :)
@justindaniels6759
4 жыл бұрын
@@cttp The point of the pancake setup (or loading anything into the source monitor) is to be able to get it into your edit (program) sequence as efficiently as possible. Opening a timeline in the source monitor (and having it be ganged when you scrub the actual timeline it's linked to) allows for fast, three point edits (mark in/out and then insert/overwrite, etc.). At our company, we often bring in editors who are used to working on Avid. Our workflow with Premiere involves sequences (day masters) that contain many different groups of multi-cam clips (scenes basically). The Avid people prefer to load those whole day master sequences into the source monitor and then mark in/out and insert/overwrite into their edited timeline, BUT when you load a sequence (with multi-cam clips in it), into the source monitor, the source monitor will only show one angle (the active angle). But, if you open a multi-cam CLIP (not a sequence containing multi-cam clips) but the actual clip itself in the source monitor, then the other angles will be displayed. My question about your pancake + source/timeline ganging was if you've ever found a way to load a SEQUENCE into the source monitor that contains multi-cam clips in it (not just single shots like b-roll) and have all the angles show. In my experience it's not possible. This problem might only be relevant to larger scale TV productions, but it's something I wish Adobe would address.

Exactly Peter. Better workflow = faster (but still good) editing. Glad you can appreciate it :)

Thanks for your very informative report on building a video editing desktop. nofilmschool.com/2018/06/how-build-best-pc-video-editing Big question: Would Intel's forthcoming Alder Lake CPU be overkill for 1080p video editing (NO 4K and NO gaming) even if also want the fan noise producing heat emissions as possible? Also, is there any truth in some claims that the latest AMD CPUs then to be better for video editing (than for gaming) than Intel CPUs, or vice versa? And if so would the better video cpu "brand" tend to before more efficient, and therefore generate less heat? Or is this all model dependent?
