Ive not read every comment, so excuse me if this has been suggested. But my husband made up my sewing area as well and the best thing he did was put my cutting table and ironing station on wheels. This has been a game changer. I have a rolling toolbox for my embroidery machine and several carts - also on wheels. It really gives you options and flexibility. Also easy to clean floors as units can be rolled out of the way. Beautiful sewing shop you have there, you both deserve the very best.

We are going to do a mixture of on wheels and not. Her primary sewing area will not have wheels. But we will have a couple of sewing station that are on wheels that we can pull out of people to use when needed.

Hey Marne, I am over the moon excited for you. You mentioned design wall and flannel. May I suggest, as I did, use insulation board covered with car headliner in the color ecru. This was suggested to me by kaffe Facuet as the white is too overpowering against your blocks! Also, it always looks clean and nice without threads collecting. I've had mine for over ten years!

Thank you! Your sewing room sounds pretty! I have sewed in many small spaces. My farmhouse sewing room was the biggest I ever had. It went through many changes but I made it my own. I loved it. I created a space that drew me in it....I would wake up in the morning, get my coffee & went to my sewing space. I couldn't stay out of there! I loved how happy it made me feel with all the pretty things! I hope to create this new studio just as beautiful as my last. Right now I sew in my dining room & I feel that I can't get motivated at times. Most of my fabrics are packed away waiting to be unpacked. I really can hardly wait for this new space to be finished. Perhaps you have addressed this in a prior video but I am wondering if you use any adaptive aids or hacks to sew one handed? I am right hand dominant and my left hand is in a cast for the next eight weeks, but I still want to sew. Are there any clever ideas that you have to share?
@marnaescountryfarmhouse
2 ай бұрын
Hello! I am glad you asked. I'm an expert at being one handed...LOL! For starters, I am an inside sewist. Meaning that i guide my work to the inside throat of the machine. This gives me more control to guide my work. I use hand weights now to hold my rulers so that I can cut my fabric. Quilters select rulers are very grippy to the fabric & helps a lot. I have 2 two pound weights & I picked up a ten pound weight just recently at a yard sale. It works well and also helps strengthen your hand & arm....ha! I use my knees a lot to hold fabric to help with seam ripping or when I'm cutting applique". When I need to thread a hand needle, I put the needle in a pin cushion to hold it & then I thread it. Clips are your good friend to hold things together. When I use pins, I like ones that have a larger head on them or the grippy ended ones. It helps me have a better grip to maneuver them into the fabric. I do understand that it is hard to adapt to being single handed when you are use to having two. It takes a little practice & sometimes you have to improvise. Be strong as you can do it! 😊 Do what feels comfortable. I'm rooting for you! 😁👌
