I’m still undecided on the fretboard! Either Ebony, Rosewood, Camphor Laurel or Maple depending on best & darkest can buy with a nice feature in it. Inlay will be only on the 12th fret with custom rectangle or different shape pure gold polished to match Schaller tuners & gold nut. Want the vintage brushed gold hardware on body to differ with neck

With the timber you plan to use for the the tele, it should end up being one beautiful guitar! I especially like your idea of using the curly maple and rosewood strips on the body, to line up with the timber on the neck. It might end up looking almost like a neck through build. My first reaction when you said you're using a traditional pick guard is that it would be a shame to cover that beautiful top under a pick guard. But I think the pick guard you've chosen should work very well with the top. My second scratch build was a set-neck tele and the only issue I have it with is how heavy it is. I have a comfort carve on the back, but I think I'd like to take more material off the back to try to make it a little lighter.

Very much looking forward to following along so I can learn for my tele build. I'm ordering up hardware this week, going with satin chrome bridge (Similar to yours), satin chrome switchplate and locking tuners, but I can't find any pickups so far that aren't the usual bright chrome neck pickup without going down the megabucks route. Time to boil a pot of coffee and do some serious searching.
@SweetTGuitars

I love satin chrome hardware but it can be hard to find that is of decent quality. I've thought about tumbling some chrome in a really fine blast media to get a satin chrome look? Maybe for the pickup cover you could put it in a coffee can with some really fine sand and tumble it? I'll be giving this some thought. I will be happy to lend any knowledge I have to help you on your build brother. You know that's kind of my thing! Peace & Love

I’m looking at using Australian Mallee for the top of body, American white oak for the body. For the neck looking at combination of the Mallee in centre strip with American white oak or something similar finish with higher strength. Anodised gold Bigsby tremblo, anodised vintage gold pickup covers, knobs, plates etc… Schaller brushed gold lock-in tuners. Using factory single coil country rock sound pickups. Big fan of Keith Urban’s sound on his Tele 😊 I’m also thinking curving the body at inside & front like the Strat for comfort & to see the 2 timber finishes from the front view

I DO want a George Tele, but with a “drop back” of IRW, making a sandwich of alder or tulipwood/poplar with weight relief, maybe some form of ‘soundhole’. I like the idea you have for the back though.. I might even consider a ‘fan’ of different contrasting woods along the centre rear seam, like you see on some fancy acoustic guitars. And an absolute yes yes yes to comfort carves on the back - even to the extent of many of your previous front carves where you’ve shaped to reveal like 3 different tones of wood. Mmm - looking forward to this one very much. What ‘board radius? Either of Fender’s or a nice easy 10” or 12”?

I have built a lot T guitars with set necks and neck through. To me, I like them better than a bolt on neck. Why? Because one can carve the heal on them for a smooth feel. What scale are you going to use? For me, I like the 25" scale with a 12" radius fret board. I also use a 2 way truss rod on all my builds. Been watching you for a long while now. I like your stile!

It makes the series more interesting to constructively critique classic designs that we all know have niggling features (flaws!), rather than just slavishly clone every feature. Pondering on the flaws isn't hating on them, even fans acknowledge they have quirky imperfections. Tele drawbacks (for me) - slabby. It's hard to believe it's from the same company that produced the contoured strat within a similar era - pickup selector is too close to the knob and hinders getting a pinky behind the slider. It's odd because there's acres of room to have a decent gap. - it's taken me several decades to tolerate the headstock, but I'm slowly getting there lol Looking forward to the build, and especially the Sweet-T refinements. Happy new year.
